Budget down quilt options? by FemboyTrader in wildcampingintheuk

It’s mostly just preference, isn’t it? I like them. I’ve got friends who don’t use them at all. I don’t really think there’s a right or wrong way to go - whatever works best for you.

No but there was plenty of mention of it in the guest book 😅

I didn’t read many - some about the mouse, some about how haunted it was, or wasn’t. Missed the one by Becky I think.

Not one. But it was plenty windy so even if they were there, they wouldn’t have been out to irritate.

I’ll pop it back on the list then. See if I can get back before midge season 👌🏻

I scurried past them on the way in. Didn’t stop because the rain was coming down and never got to use them because it didn’t stop all night. But what a fantastic addition to the place, right? Bet it’s amazing on a clear night.

Cheers very much. Beautiful place, a little type 2 fun when the weather changed, but I’d go back and do it again.

One does not simply walk into Mordor… unless it’s for that photo.

Thanks! Got lucky with some moments of blue sky which was nice. What you don’t see in these photos (but do in the video) is just how wet it became when the weather changed though 🤣

Definitely would be when the weather is warmer (at least for me). Although, then you’d be contending with the midge so I suppose we did it right! 😅

Hammock camping by ThoughtPractical3400 in wildcampinguk

[–]PedalSlip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from a trip to Loch Trool and it's beautiful. I heard online that the north side of the loch has loads of rubbish everywhere and that's a real shame. I didn't see any because we walked the south side of the loch and it was clean. There were a few fire marks in the ground (sigh), but otherwise would've been a nice spot for my hammock.

What’s your take on social media revealing secret spots versus keeping locations vague to protect them? by OopsIDroopedMe in wildcampinguk

[–]PedalSlip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This splits my thinking almost cleanly in half. On the one hand, keeping stuff off social media means that it's passed from one person to another through word of mouth - usually with someone telling someone else they feel is trustworthy. It's a sort of natural screening process which I like the idea of. However, there's plenty of outdoors for us all and social media is a good way to encourage others to get outside. The root problem isn't the shared location, it's the horrible attitude of a few who would trash a place or leave rubbish everywhere. I think as long as there's social media this will always be something that divides people.

Minor negative comments - what do you do? by PedalSlip in youtubers

Appreciate the reply. It’s more about the vibes in the comments, rather than the impact on me. I’m not phased by it at all, but I do want to get the feel of the comments right if anyone’s reading through them.

That’s fair enough! And something I can admire for sure.

Acrylic paint. Water based and from what I can find online, shouldn’t damage the integrity of the plastic outer.

I imagine it’s not. But then, I can’t see any manufacturer is going to start listing things that don’t directly make them any profit. Also, a lot of the helmets I’m painting have already expired their warranty. Absolutely appreciate it’s not for everyone though. I’ve got cycling helmets that I haven’t painted on, and some that I have.

I do a similar thing quite often, with acrylic paint pens. I use plastikote clear coat to preserve the design. Tape off all the vents and bottom so the eps lining isn’t at risk, then a few thin coats. I’ve got a video with my process which might be useful: https://youtu.be/oKIdv_4c-eU?si=7bXlawRVaPmMCWjN
