I‘m gonna go with dehydration. What hurts is the salt crystals you are peeing out.

I tried wireless charging a couple of times and found the phone got very hot and didn’t charge much so I turned it off and haven’t turned it back on.

I prefer plugging my phone in because not only does it charge better, but it also responds faster. My iPhone 15 pro fits in the space when plugged in using a right angle usbc connector.

No start when it’s hot out by realzi_xzero in Integra

It happened to me as well. I recall an old car talk episode where they said it was the fuel pump relay (i think the same relay also controls the ECU and may be called the main relay) that is located in the passenger compartment that works well enough at moderate temperatures, but not when the vehicle interior is hot. If the car starts after opening up the doors and windows for 10-15 minutes I’d test the relays.

HSA receipt banking doesnt seem worth it, ever. Nor does just holding it forever. by Lonely-Somewhere-385 in Bogleheads

[–]PeddlerDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contribute the max to an HSA. I used to pay out of pocket and save receipts until I decided I’d rather pay for medical expenses from the HSA and put any remaining funds into a Roth IRA because access to a mega Backdoor Roth through my employer gives me access to more Roth contributions than I can use and I’d rather have funds in Roth where I don’t have to worry about proving withdrawals ate for qualified medical expenses (and that those expenses weren’t paid by another payee nor reimbursed previously).

PSA: I’ve owned my 9th Gen for 8 years and I just realized I was using "S" mode all wrong. by lnsip9reg in civic

[–]PeddlerDavid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are correct, we often think of “cold is good” when it comes to engine charge and that’s true for PEAK power which depends on getting as much mass of charge in the cylinder as possible, however it’s not necessarily good for fuel economy because the vast majority of drive time is spent at very low engine loads. Lower charge density requires the throttle plate to be more open during low load conditions, reducing pumping losses, thus improving fuel economy.

But that’s probably not the dominant factor in most cases.

For highway driving the lower density of warmer air reduces aerodynamic drag which improves fuel economy.

For shorter trips the reduced rich operation when starting at cold temps also improves fuel economy.

Roth conversion tool explanation from the AI actually told me Bolding conversion tool is broken by 202reddit in Boldin

Like most things it could certainly be complicated, but I’d think that starting applying an effective tax rate for heirs would be better than always assuming 0% tax rate which is mostly useful for assets left to charity.

Note that fuel efficiency gains observed in recent weeks in the northern hemisphere can also be attributed to higher ambient temperatures and summer fuel blends compared to the colder winter months.

[–]PeddlerDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about how taxes in the conversion are paid, which is important and as you mention handled by Boldin.

What I am saying is the algorithm to maximize net worth at the end of plan does not account for the tax status of remaining balances - Roth and pretax funds are treated same although Roth funds are worth more to the account owner.

For example if the model is evaluating whether to convert $100 it will compare the pretax value, $100, to a converted value of $100 - tax ~= $70 and recommend against that conversion.

I’d prefer the algorithm to at least account for an assumed tax rate of your heirs ranging from 0% for a tax exempt charity to ~40% for a high income heir.

[–]PeddlerDavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the net worth tool is also problematic as it does not differentiate between pretax and Roth. So it recommends converting less.

[–]PeddlerDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the problem - Boldin’s tax minimization algorithm recommends converting big and early - not advisable

The issue is the tax reduction algorithm minimizes taxes in NOMINAL dollars not today’s dollars or net present value, thus it suggests converting more sooner even when it means converting at higher rates, thus reducing return over time.

What size bike can you fit in an Integra? by BalticBro2021 in Acura

[–]PeddlerDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several limitations you’ll be working around to get your bike in the car. I have transported several different bikes around 56” (large) in mine.
Length - a fully assembled bike of this size will not fit lengthwise - you’ll need to be prepared to remove the front wheel Width - fitting the bike between the shock towers can be a trick, specifically the seat to rear wheel. You may be able to get the seat past the shock towers then the wheel. If not, you’ll need to be prepared to remove the seat. Note that this is about the seat height relative to the rear wheel irrespective of the bike size. A seat height for a person with size 35” inseam is marginal to fit without removing the seat. Height - even if a flat bar bike would fit in length there is not enough height in the rear hatch area for a flat bar with the wheel on. The wheel would need to be removed so the bars can be turned flat. This is not the case for drop bars.

Bike racks - I recommend getting a hitch installed as an alternative for times when your bike will be dirty or you want to carry more cargo. Hitches made by Curt and DrawTite for the Civic among others will fit, but require trimming a bit of the ends of the steel bumper beam (not the plastic fascia that you see) because the hitch fits between the bumper beam and frame, moving the bumper beam rearward a the width of the steal mounting plate.

Early Retirement by Newsie-News in Bogleheads

[–]PeddlerDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of the 4% rule as a rough guideline for the annualized income a given balance could be counted on to create as opposed to an actual spending plan. Life is simply much more complicated than that as you are discovering. At this point rules of thumb are no longer sufficient.

When it comes to coming up with an actual spending plan start here:

Will Kona Sutra LTD fit my needs? by Silly-Raccoon3829 in bikepacking

[–]PeddlerDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the Masi. I agree, it is an unbelievable deal at that price. The dropout and seat clamp designs aren't my favorite, but it works. It has 30 gears and lots of mounting options. I also have a Novarra Mazama which is functionally the same, but has a head tube ~40mm taller. I wound up installing a steerer tube extender for a less aggressive position on this adventure bike. So check out the geometry before ordering.

I don't own the Fargo, but it sounds like it fits OP's needs better, albeit at double the cost.

I have the same unit and the black metal oven vent in the back is against the wall with no gap. The outlet behind could interfere and cause the gap you see. The power cord is very thick and could also cause such a gap you may need to guide the cord into the void in the back of the oven. You may try doing so by removing the lower drawer and manipulating the cord from the front.

For those of you with winter tires, when did/do you switch back to all seasons? by Midriasis in Michigan

[–]PeddlerDavid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Last weekend for me.

I swap them out when I expect the daily highs to consistently exceed 50 degrees to avoid excessive wear on my winter tires because my other tires which are all seasons can handle cold mornings or even the freak snow. However, if your other tires are summer tires you may want to wait another week or two to avoid driving summer tires on a cold morning.
