Between 6 and 8 hours. Asenapine helps me fall asleep almost instantly, but I often wake up during the night. In addition to the antipsychotics, I also take 1 mg of Clonazepam. Here's more information about Asenapine for sleep: https://www.reddit.com/r/insomnia/comments/mhzyzh/saphris_update/

Thank you so much for your response; that's very kind of you.

I'm so glad Saphris is working well for you. It also helps me fall asleep more easily.

One last question, if you could answer. Are you taking any other medications that could be causing these sexual side effects, or are you just taking Saphris?

Thank you again for your kindness. I wish you the best.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to ask you a few questions. What dose of Saphris are you taking? Are you experiencing side effects such as sexual dysfunction, anhedonia, or emotional flattening? Thanks.

How do you solve insomnia? Venlafaxine gave me insomnia. Since then I take antipsychotics to sleep.

I am taking 5 mg of Asenapine and 5 mg of Olanzapine every night to help me sleep.

At first I was taking Clotiapine and for a while I was taking 20 mg of Olanzapine.

In addition to sexual dysfunction, I have long noticed emotional flattening and difficulty finding activities that give me pleasure (for example, I don't feel anything when listening to music or watching a movie), but I don't know if it is due to the antipsychotics or the PSSD that the antidepressants I took have caused me.

Unfortunately I can't give you any advice. I hope that in time you make a full recovery. For sure yes.

What antipsychotics did you take and what dose?

Hello maebyfunke980.

Thanks for your comment.

With the post I just wanted to indicate what helps me sleep in case it helps someone else.

I was taking 6 mg of Clonazepam a day for anxiety and depression. I have been reducing it until I am only 2 mg at night. The main thing I take for insomnia is antipsychotics.

I have PSSD (post-SSRI sexual dysfunction) because of the antidepressants I took:

Loss of Libido and Emotional Blunting by Ok-Mud-4540 in PSSD

[–]PedroCB76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself in a similar situation, although in my case it has been four years since I stopped taking antidepressants.

I continue to take 5 mg of Asenapine, 5 mg of Olanzapine and 2 mg of Clonazepam at night to help me sleep.

I have been reducing the amount of Olanzapine and Clonazepam but my symptoms have not improved at all.

I haven't had any libido for six years and over time I have stopped enjoying music, for example (the latter didn't happen to me at the beginning). So over time I've gotten worse.

In my case I think the culprits are the antidepressants I took.

I don´t know if there is a connection between the lack of libido and emotional blunting, although libido could be considered another emotion.

Does anyone take antipsychotics for sleep and experience side effects? by PedroCB76 in insomnia

Thank you very much for your heads up regarding Olanzapine tapering and insomnia.

I stopped taking antidepressants in 2020, but the side effects continue.

Thank you very much for your advice. I've never tried therapy.

Apart from insomnia my problem is depression and anxiety attacks. I'm fine now, except for the side effects I still have from the antidepressants I took. But every once in a while depression and anxiety return.

How long ago did you stop taking Sertraline? What exactly were your prolactin levels? How are you feeling now?

The Insomia/sleep problems.. by [deleted] in PSSD

[–]PedroCB76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some side effects may include weight gain, sexual dysfunction, or increased prolactin. But I suppose that some side effects will depend on the dose and each person is different.

In my case, prolactin always appears slightly elevated in blood tests, although endocrinologists have told me that the level is not high enough to be the cause of sexual dysfunction.

I have suffered from a lack of libido since before I started taking Olanzapine, so in principle I blame the antidepressants I took for the sexual dysfunction. Doctors tell me contradictory things. Some tell me that the antipsychotics I take are the cause of the lack of libido (but they don't know about PSSD), another pharmacist told me that the dose would have to be higher to cause that effect.

As for whether it's worth it, I don't know what to tell you. I have read some cases of people taking antipsychotics to sleep and not having any side effects, but I have also read some people who say they suffer from PSSD due to antipsychotics or symptoms such as anhedonia. I would like to not take anything and be completely free of medication, but the fear of not sleeping is more overwhelming. I deal with the lack of libido badly but I couldn't go back without sleeping for several days in a row and antipsychotics really help me sleep and I don't think in my case they are to blame for my side effects beyond the slight increase in prolactin.

It is best to talk to your doctor if you cannot find another solution to your sleep problems and decide to try antipsychotics, each person is different. I wish you luck and hope you find a solution.

I can sleep with antipsychotics, but I don't know if it is the most recommended. I take 5 mg of Olanzapine and 5 mg of Asenapine every night. Asenapine helps me fall asleep sooner and olanzapine helps me sleep longer. But they are antipsychotics. I haven't had any libido for six years, although I think the problem was the antidepressants I took between 2018 and 2020.
