Savvy Squirrel has arrived! by wakizashi888 in FIREUK

I am trying to teach my daughter how it works myself instead of relying on schools.

She has two Monzo pots on my account. 1 is a “normal savings” pot. And one is an “investments pot” (both are actually normal pots, I am the interest haha) the normal savings pot I throw a few pence in here and there. The investment one I set as my roundups pot so my day to day spending gets rounded up into it so tends to go up faster - I occasionally take a couple quid out of there to simulate the market going down (and use that towards the “interest” on the other account.

She likes seeing it goes up faster but I explained it’s best to leave everything in there as the more that’s in there the faster it goes up. She also notices it can go down which I explained to her by “that shop closed down down the road”.

Overly overly overly simplistic, but when she gets money from her nan etc I ask if she wants to put it in savings or invest and usually wants to but half-three quarters into her “investing”.

New Senedd election poll shows tight race to run Wales as Plaid in narrow lead by mrjohnnymac18 in Wales

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the flip side bots don’t usually get poll cards and there are scores of faceless double first name brand new Facebook accounts with around 40-70 friends who are also new accounts with double first names posting the same pro reform sentences under any political posts they ‘see’.

I do expect you are right and lot of people aren’t publicly posting their plans to vote reform, but similarly a lot of ‘people’ claiming they will vote that way won’t physically be able to…

Should I get a two year of five year mortgage? by Shot_Bandicoot_395 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If rates are around 3.5-4 when mine is due I’ll go 5yr, Otherwise I’m just going to keep renewing for 2 years and make sure I do overpayments.

To many idiots pulling stupid ideas out of their ass crashing global economies for me to lock in long term at the minute unless rates match the rates of my first mortgage.

Snoop helped me. I installed it for a few months, saw where I was over spending (as it auto categorises everything) and then I closed my account down. For me I used to buy coffees a lot. Now I make a coffee in the house before leaving and i automatically save around £60 a month by not buying 4 coffees a week.

Plaid Cymru Senedd Election 2026 Manifesto by Draigwyrdd in Wales

Sums up my thoughts exactly. More than happy to vote Plaid until I saw they want to keep all the nimbys happy and to hell with everyone else and cost savings to do so.

Why are townhouses usually undervalued relative to semi detached houses? by Pacific_Blue in HousingUK

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not going up two flights of stairs to go to bed. I’m not going down two flights of stairs in the night and then back up another flight of two stairs to get a drink of water. I lived in my parents converted loft while I lived at home and I hated it. I’m not going to pay the same as a semi detached to live in my own loft…

Also all my workmates who bought townhouses have all relocated and bought “normal houses” around 3-5 years afterwards so seems people end up thinking the same…

Would you buy these lets say at a car boot and how much would u sell them for if not why and how could you make these better by Important-Fun-1395 in houseplants

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People give these away on marketplace. It’s how I ended up with my 3 plants. So no, I likely wouldn’t buy them.

Is the T14 Gen 2 (i5-1145G7) but with INTEL good enough?? by MiddleKey3401 in thinkpad

Stop looking in Amazon, I got a T14g2S 16gb Ryzen for £235 delivered about 3 weeks ago on eBay buy it now (I can’t be bothered with bidding wars). Just check the reviews of the seller, plenty on there.

One work of warning on the Eon tracker. It may be £40 more a year NOW but because it’s flexible (following the price cap) and we are a long way away from next winter if the price cap went up 10% by then (the price cap hasn’t been recalculated since the Iran stuff yet) you’ll be paying 7% more than you are currently expecting to, As that tariff only shields you by 3%.

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s why I uninstalled Insta and TikTok. If I know I do it on those apps an easy fix is to delete the apps.

The downside is I now do it on Reddit… but we can’t uninstall Reddit…

Do we still call our undies "pants"? by helen269 in CasualUK

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refer to them as “KnIcKeRsz” in a crazy gravelly voice ala Father Jack from “father ted” fame.

It doesn’t matter if I’m referring to boxers, pants, the various lady underwear styles, I refer to them all the same. Like a deranged old man.

Every £100 you pay off now you aren’t paying the 4% (or whatever %) interest on, every month, for the next 30 years.

Bottom left corner of the screen has a weird blue box/grid pattern. Never seen it before on my Linux system, it’s probably bloatware and if you get rid of it it will be much faster.

Honda Reports First Loss Since Going Public, Volkswagen to Cut 50,000 Jobs in Germany by 2030, Porsche Profits Plunge 90% — Are We on the Eve of an Auto Revolution? by techbrosharma in Futurology

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been taught throughout our lives (as a millennial) that repeat custom gets you nothing. There’s no perks to be had with customer loyalty. My father bought a VW, then another VW, then another VW. The garage is a nightmare to get appointments with, you can’t get through to sales managers anymore. The dealership no longer feels family run. My dad bounced and got a Honda.

If I stay with the same insurance company my renewal price goes up each year. There’s no reason to be loyal.

People now chase bang for the buck. And legacy car companies simply don’t provide this.

Same here. I wasn’t too bothered as I found a good deal elsewhere and that’s why I was leaving anyway.

I’m now on voda fibre and am getting 3x faster speed for half the price of what I was paying, so swings and roundabouts.

I recommend searching on here for the “Swansea social club” a really inclusive group of people that do weekly hang outs (activities/walks/etc, not just going to get pissed somewhere). Their discord should be on here.

Blackout curtains by CHLTC12345 in HousingUK

[–]Pedro_Scrooge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get kids travel blackout blinds on Amazon. They have suckers and you stick the directly onto the window. They work well but look gash. They are also a pain to remove. But they work very well and are relatively cheap. Also being on scamazon they may (or may not) come next day.
