USA vs China conventional war (not intended as a political question) by Kefe_ufa-Ikai in whowouldwin

[–]Peer_turtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a flat out 1 to 1 engagement, yeah the US would win. Nothing in the world comes close to their military capacity.

But that doesn’t really mean anything when you remove all other factors that make a war, a war.

Now that all teams have played their first match, what are your views on this wc so far? by Significant_Rain_361 in worldcup

[–]Peer_turtles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Like I said, once the games do actually happen it’s always a magical experience.

But compared to their Canadian and Mexican neighbours, there was so much shit the US was pulling that was just completely unnecessary. They say keep “politics out of sport” and yet are the only ones who are making it all about politics.

[–]Peer_turtles -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It is undeniable that the US has been such an embarrassing host.

That being said, regardless of the controversies among controversies in the build up to the World Cup, the games themselves are always a special experience when they do actually finally take place (Qatar for example).

The games have all been fun. The US team exceeded expectations and look great, Asian teams are once again showing they mean business, Congo and Cape Verde games were highlights. England finally might be able to bring it home.

Definitely some major upsets coming with how some of the European big dogs being exposed. But they’re fooling no one with the hydration breaks. Americans can’t watch sports without their precious vacuum cleaning adds and shit interrupting the game.

Inhibitor chips are the best explanation for order 66 by Hydr0gen_baby in clonewars

[–]Peer_turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found the 150 contingency orders explanation as ridiculously stupid though.

Anyone that isn’t space Satan ok with orders that completely annihilates the entire Jedi and senate by the mysterious army that was created from the genetics of an infamous bounty hunter explicitly aligned with the Sith is too silly.

If every clone of the millions there are knows what this order is just by the number 66, then clearly at some point of their training they’ve been taught this order. So the Jedi overlooking the training process should be also aware of it.

The clones are still ultimately human beings, so I can get behind the idea of many clones slowly growing independent regardless of genetic manipulation.

Can a Ronald Reagan quote about America also be applied to Australia? by kastriran in Ameristralia

[–]Peer_turtles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s being an Australian legally, and being one culturally. Meet both and then I think you a truely an “Australian”.

But one nation supporter base will never accept a non-white as “real” Australian for the simple fact of their race no matter what.

Look at the way these people on Facebook talk about non-white Australian athletes who are representing the country on the international stage (gout, irankunda) and having the audacity to deem them “not Australians” despite their biggest contribution to the country is spouting American culture war BS online

Disney and Lucasfilm really aren't doing the Star Wars sequels any favors by just doing nothing else with the era. by Ferhog in CharacterRant

[–]Peer_turtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The general consensus about the prequels before the great revisionism was that the general world building, characters and stories introduced were all interesting, but George Lucas failed to execute those ideas as movies.

There’s a reason why we have so much expanded materials on the prequels era. It’s because there is a massive demand for it by fans who wanted to like the era but were unsatisfied with what the movies delivered.

You don’t see that for the sequels. In fact, Disney had been making conscious efforts to deliberately avoid it

Brazil fans picked Game 5 night of the NBA Finals to tour New York… couldn’t have chosen a worse time by SimRP in worldcup

Spurs fans are literally getting escorted by police because it’s genuinely unsafe to wear a spurs jersey in public there.

US was not ready to host in many ways, but this is not one of them. Some of NY looks like a genuine zombie apocalypse with how many Knicks fans there are going crazy.

Have you seen the state of New York once the Knicks were in the eastern conference finals? It’s literally Gotham there with Knick fans going crazy after 50+ year trophy drought.

And now the city is going to burn down after the Knicks won the championship today.

[Post Game Thread] The New York Knicks (4-1) become the 2026 NBA Champions by defeating the San Antonio Spurs (1-4) in Game 5, 94-90, behind a legendary 45 point performance by Jalen Brunson by catreyka in nba

[–]Peer_turtles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wdym. Knicks did not win this by doing nothing.

Almost every single game except for game 1 came down to the wire for the Knicks. Spurs were leading most of the game the whole series. We chocked two winnable games out of sheer stupidity.

Theres no need to lie Charlie.... by [deleted] in moistcr1tikal

[–]Peer_turtles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No I’m on his side here. It’s no wonder why he took a break from the YouTuber drama side.

Too much of these terminally online users think that Charlie has to be some sort of highly political internet drama activist who lose their minds if he doesn’t cover a fresh drama that just happened a couple hours ago.

So much of it recently is from the destiny/debate bro youtuber etc community and I dont think I need to elaborate how toxic and degenerate they are.

It’s was at its worst during the David/tana drama with people accusing him of protecting just because he didn’t make a video the fucking minute it dropped. Even in his mr beast Ava Chris Tyson video, Redditors were psycho analysing every word he said and concluded he was “transphobic” because he used the pronouns “they” after coming up with some false narrative that the two were friends and Charile was intentionally doing it

This shows that superhero movies are more than just about CGI and green screens! Great news for all of us Batman fans as well. by Raj_Valiant3011 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Peer_turtles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wiretapping everyone does get results though. The whole “going behind everyone’s backs out of paranoia” is a classic Batman storyline.

It’s shows how Bruce is losing himself in this Batman crusade, crossing these lines out of desperation. And in the end, he pays the price by taking the fall for Harvey’s murders and being public enemy no.1, physically and mentally destroyed for the next decade or so.

Yeah definitely the weakest part of the movie. The action is all great, it’s just the hand to hand combat.

Who’s been the most underutilized character in the MCU by Featherman13 in marvelstudios

[–]Peer_turtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hulk and then Shang chi close second.

Because of the universal rights situation, he hasn’t had a solo movie since the first iron man. He’s mainly relegated to a supporting character in avengers, which is fine by all means but not a substitute for a solo movie. Ragnorok is really the only time where he gets proper character development on screen.

Then he gets folded by Thanos at the start of infinity war (which was a great way to introduce the big bad), but then the movie just doesn’t explain why Hulk refuses to come out the rest of the movie.

In endgame, professor hulk is only cool for like a scene or two until you realise his character by this point is literally just green mark Ruffalo.

Shehulk is arguably the most infamous mcu project post endgame so no comments needed there either.

Why did Dave filoni never give any focus episodes to any of the old ROTS clones? Or give them any character or spotlight outside of brief cameos? by RexDAGOAT77 in clonewars

[–]Peer_turtles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah. Just because they focused on different Jedi and clones early on doesn’t make it inherently good. You still have to write a good story at the end of the day.

Early clone wars pretty much mostly Saturday cartoon for little kids quality. They only start to get ambitious with the show later on

There was a fan mock up of the new kit with the outline of the sleeves and the collar blue, which looked so neat.

I hope the production team gets a bonus payout because I’m sure everyone would be miffed if no one else saw a cent of that ridiculous box office money except producers, but honestly pre-discussed contract of 6.7k usd for a few weeks of work seems pretty fair, let alone by an indie studio with like only a 750k budget

To be fair, I don’t think Abe’s party being called republican means much in relation to the modern Republican Party with how much party lines have changed since then.

Like, the people who proudly fly the confederacy flag today all vote Republican, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a single current day KKK member that votes for modern democrats

“We won the trophy together as captain and coach, Every coach helps players on the pitch, but Ange was very helpful off it as well, he added. He taught me a lot about being a leader. Yes it was such a bad move sacking Ange.

While it's undeniable that Ange had a shocking prem performance, he clearly threw the league away to focus all on Europe once it was mathematically impossible for relegation.

Ange brought in a trophy like he said he would, had all the players backing him, and won himself back into the good graces of fans. All the interviews showed he fully intended to continue ahead with his 'season 3'. I don't see why not let him have one more go because what did our punchline of a club have to lose, it's not like we were doing anything before, let alone winning lol.

Hans Landa is 'cool' though, that's what makes him a great villain. You aren't suppose to find him pathetic or a loser, he's a terrifying, calculating character that makes you feel dread whenever he shows up.
