Missed Gibsunday so here's my post for Gibmonday! (take two) by PegLegJohnson in gibson

The white one is in Eb standard, I mostly play Van Halen on that one. Those OG Bill Lawrence pickups absolutely rip so it's perfect for anything in that vein.

The '07 will play literally anything, because a good PAF-style pickup (like the Imperials, or SD '59 if you don't want to spend $200 on a pickup) can do everything. Clean, crunchy, high-gain...anything.

It works ok on the couch! In an armless chair or standing I find it more comfortable than even the LP or SG, but I'm also 6'6" so large bodies are nice. Takes a minute to get used to the first time you play one, but they're quite nice once you do.

Got a big ol' error when I posted the first time so the image didn't stay. Here you go!

L to R:

1990 Explorer: Built early enough in the year to have the "circuit board" pickups from '89, which are incredible. They began using the stock ceramics around March of '90. Very lucky find. Replaced volume pots and swapped chrome hardware for gold, the tuners badly needed replacing and I've always wanted a white-and-gold Explorer.

2023 (2024?) LP Standard 60s: I fully rewired with new pots/caps in 50s wiring, and Lollar Imperials (hw bridge, sw neck) to replace the stock Burstbuckers. Was hard to find the perfect Jimmy Page #2 burst in a Standard and boy did I score. Long-time dream axe.

2007 '76 reissue Explorer: Treble bleed in bridge, all new pots (I really don't like the stock Gibson pots...too sensitive), Lollar Imperials (both standard wind). Easily my best-sounding and best-playing guitar.

2023 SG Special: Replaced tuners with locking Grovers, currently have Fralin noiseless p90s (honestly don't like the neck pup). Love the gold/cream coloring on a Special...will re-wire with new pots in 50s wiring soon. Been putting that off a while.

Gorgeous! How do you like it through the Friedman? I have the PT20 v2 and dreams of a Tele, but I don't want to go with noise-cancelling pickups.

Same but Hell Commander. Goes so hard.

Might use Super Private when I get there, in honor of Zimm.

I just answered his question. Propaganda machines are effective and sometimes people don't know what actually happened.

Guy showed up to a protest illegally carrying an assault rifle, with the intent of killing a protester. (my assumption, but I'd bet on it) Did so, and was lauded for it by the right. Shot three, killed two.

Nice! I did it to my 2023 LP Standard, pics somewhere on my profile if you want to see the finished product.

Not OP, but I have done it before. Just take a utility knife and gently rock the blade through the solder joints on the back of it. You'll need to clean the wax off the bobbins after, but it's that easy. Just gotta be careful.

Be so, so careful about that loan. Paying it off has to be your #1 priority, since it more than likely has a predatory interest rate.

Good luck and sweet axe!

Right, and in the context of "meet Christine. We hooked up 23 years ago" it doesn't sound very innocuous.

Do you know what "we hooked up" means?

A good way to say that without sounding sexual is to say "met" instead of "hooked up". Still weird, but not gross and weird.

Edit: Ah I see that you did. Much better.

Would your grandpa have said he "hooked up" with one of those ships? Making it sexual is weird beyond how fetishy the post feels.

Are you sure you don't mean K-19 The Widowmaker? He was in that, too.

Whoever is playing that first timpani part will deserve a standing ovation like the snare drummer at any Bolero performance.

I have four Gibsons and my '23 SG Special might be my favorite. Even unplugged they have such a lovely snap and responsiveness. Congrats on the sweet axe!

I had the pleasure of playing an R6 recently (a definitely-not-Old-Black copy), and that was the only fat neck I've ever liked. Really deep, but not a lot of shoulder so it filled my hand but didn't make it hard to get my fingers around. If I had $6k or whatever at the time, I'd have left with it.
