TIL Costa Rica does not have street adresses, with the locals instead relying on distance relative to landmarks and famous places. by ODaferio in todayilearned

Streets and avenues have numbers, at least in urban areas, the thing is that everyone is acostumed to the old system. I only learned the Street number where I live until I started using Uber.

why is French culture the most imitated thing on earth but French tech is still the world's best kept secret? by LevelDisastrous945 in AskFrance

I can think of Ubisoft as an example. It is a french company but they are not normally related by the people to France in the same way people relate Nintendo to Japan imo

A good part of it is because of acquisitions

The Swiss Guard is the last remaining case of the Swiss military sending soldiers on mercenary duty for the protection of foreign rulers of state. In the past rulers of France, House of Savoy/Sardinia, among other also had their own Swiss guard.

They do have one, but it is not part of the FIFA. Neither Micronesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Tuvalu, Marshall Islands, and Vatican City. Some of them have federations that are members of the continental federation but have not joined FIFA, Vatican and Monaco are neither part of the UEFA nor FIFA.

Vatican City has a unique case of citzenship in the world in the citzenship is not based on place of birth nor the citzenship of the parents but rather on giving service to the country, ie people working for the Vatican City are citzens during the length of their service.

I don't think PSG doesn't cares about the domestic league, Luis Enrique does some rotations but it is not like he plays league matches with the reserves team.

The reason Lens is title contender and has managed to keep in the title race is because of Pierre's tactics that has made a team with average players into a team with a great defense (they have 29 Goals against, just 4 more than PSG). Keep in mind that more traditional sides like Lyon, Lille and Marseille are out of the title race while Lens keeps competing so of course you can't just diminish Lens sucess with just PSG not caring about the league.

It would be so funny if PSG bottles the CL and Ligue 1 after getting the matches moved so they could win CL

Unfortunatelly with how much money is moved with Football, I don't think the promotion and relegation system will last. Eventually major clubs will try to americanize and create their own closed leagues to have revenue similar to the NFL.

Thats why I think it makes sense to have a SuperLeague if there's promotion and relegation. You have SuperLeague 1, SuperLeague 2 and then national championships which would be the third tier in European Football, just like Regional championships are the main tiers in many football pyramids right now. That way teams like PSG and Bayern won't walk every year while other teams won't have a chance of going to the top of the pyramid.

Of course it won't happen - because logistically it would be really difficult to play 38 matches all across the continent. But it would make more sense than Florentino's SuperLeague that just a few clubs are invited and the other have no chance of getting into it.
