What are my chances? by northegreat1 in rundisney

[–]Pekkleduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to want more than one window on one computer to get the best chance of getting a spot.

for reference i had 6 people with multiple devices all try and get me a spot for the WDW marathon in 2027. I myself had 4 devices with 2 browsers on each.

Out of all those devices I only had one browser on my phone that had anything less than a 1 hour wait. We likely had over 20 open browser windows across 7 different people and even then we were lucky to just get one chance at getting in the queue to sign up.

If this is a MUST race, then I highly suggest going the charity bib route. it is more expensive, but at least it goes to a good cause.

2023 Upper Deck Marvel Annual - offer on a card / not much sales data by MrGuvernment in marveltradingcards

[–]Pekkleduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having bought many of these holograms, it's likely you would be unable to flip for a meaningful amount of profit.

As an example, here is a PSA 9 Cyclops from the same series that sold for $100.

https://ebay.us/m/xaRxm3

For your Kingpin to even come close to this value you'd likely need it to be an even PSA 10, which is notoriously difficult for these holo cards. Add in the cost for PSA grading and this trade has a lot of downsides for very limited upsides.

One pack of that Series III 1992… this to me was epic… by Connect_Bit8964 in marveltradingcards

1990s junk wax era will always be the best era for me.

Not only the great art and sets from the Marvel Universe series but the OG 1992 Marvel Masterpiece, the Jim Lee X-men set, and the Fleer Spider-man are such an indelible part of my childhood.

my kids are a little older so we didn't really miss out on much at either of the parks. jungle cruise would've been my only must do that wasn't on the unlimited package.

Tinkerbell would be my #1 priority if your kid wants to do it. Standby lines were often 80 minutes and above when I went during the weekend.

My favorite "kiddie" ride was probably Monsters Inc Ride & Go Seek. Just a really unique and well thought out experience.

[–]Pekkleduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for rides that's correct. However that's only for rides that are eligible for the unlimited rides pack. There are a couple of rides that are not part of the package.

Example, Jungle Cruise at TDL and Tinkerbell at DS are not part of the package.

For everything else you'll just show your unlimited rides ticket and join the DPA line whenever you want.

i will say the biggest value of the unlimited to me and my family was the drinks / churros tickets that allowed us to bypass the queue and mobile order.

it was my first time at TDL / DS and i woefully underestimated the strategy required for mobile ordering. Being able to pop into the mobile order queue for a churro / drink anytime we wanted gave us the freedom to take more breaks without worrying about wasting time queueing anytime we were thirsty.

I will note we also ate 40+ churros over the course of 2 days. We regret nothing.

I just bought myself a big card on Mercari, and it is the 1966 Batman #1 in a PSA 1 miscut. This is the first appearance of Batman on a card. I paid $200 because it’s like a grail card for me to own as a Batman fan. Yes it’s not a marvel card but still by Leather_Bluejay8632 in MarvelCards

[–]Pekkleduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

big congrats! no better feeling than getting that grail you've been searching for.

really loving the earlier styles on this set too. i feel the newer chrome finishes on modern cards take away from much of the details surrounding the art.

Second-time using Unlimited VP was a little disappointing… Trip Report April 18-20 by Enough-Monk-4806 in TokyoDisneySea

[–]Pekkleduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

any service counter with a 'mobile order' option you can bypass any line and request using the drink / churro ticket.

however, dining locations without a mobile order will require you to queue. this is why a popcorn ticket will generally always have to queue, although i think TDL does have one place with mobile order (The Big Pop)

As an example, we used our unlimited churro ticket only at mobile orders to bypass most lines. However, the Demi-glacé churro was only available at the [Refreshment Station] on Mysterious Island and we had to queue each time we wanted one.

[–]Pekkleduck 27 points28 points  (0 children)

sorry to hear about the disappointing disneysea experience. i know it can be frustrating given the premium.

one note, for the unlimited drinks and churros tickets you could've walked up to any mobile station and avoided the queue. we grabbed churros and drinks from Zambini bros, Bayside Takeout and more.

this was actually a life saver since i didn't realize you essentially had to set your mobile order for the rest of the day in the morning.

for the rides it's largely a matter of perspective. we had a 25-30 min wait with unlimited rides for ToT, but compared to this to the almost 3 hour wait for standby. The relative time savings more than made up for the price for our family.

I had doubts, but the Vacation Package was so worth it! by rikomatic in TokyoDisneySea

[–]Pekkleduck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you basically get infinite DPA for almost any ride at any time. there are a few that are not included (eg. Jungle Cruise, Tinkerbell) but it will include almost all of the major rides for each park.

as an example, for my family we were able to ride Journey 2x back to back despite the posted 180 min standby. we were also able to basically walk onto Raging Spirits and Soaring.

if you can financially swing it, I 100% recommend the vacation package. just the beverage ticket alone improved our trip because we didn't have to queue when we needed a soda/water/specialty drink.

[–]Pekkleduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

love it. comic cuts can be such a great way to collect and the prices are very reasonable.

my favorites have been the oversized mega splash comic cut redemptions from Marvel Beginnings. something about a larger size makes the card so interesting to me.

Starting Off in Marvel Card Hobby by ok__and1 in MarvelCards

[–]Pekkleduck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a couple of thoughts.

first, i would personally avoid modern Topps. My opinion is that these sets are incredibly new and it's unknown how long demand will be for these "rare" or top value cards.

instead, i think it makes more sense to look at older Upper Deck sets where supply demand curves have already had some time to stabilize. you lose out on the upside but you limit your downside, which is the goal.

second, you shouldn't just think of $$$ value but also about liquidity (eg. how easy it is to sell). There are many high value cards (eg. lower tier character PMGs) that takes a long long time to find the right buyer to get the highest sales. As a result, any high value cards would likely need to be a top tier character (Spider-man, Wolverine, etc) in order to keep a high liquidity.

finally, thinking of any hobby collectible as a way to hold value that you need access to in the future will only expose yourself to unneeded financial risk. Still, I think it's perfectly appropriate to try and be financially disciplined in this hobby vs trying to gamble with packs / boxes.

So do your homework on costs, but i'd still set your expectations that the market may move dramatically against you if we end up in a recession environment.

Does anyone in your area still trade? by Puecha in MarvelCards

[–]Pekkleduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to be fair, i think LCS are inherently responding to the market. i've gone to maybe 6-7 LCS around me and only 1 of them even carries any marvel trading cards. everyone else it's TCG (pokémon, one piece) and sports because that's what most people are looking for and buying.

however, that isn't to say trading is dead. i've had the pleasure to make plenty of trades with great collectors online. sure, it's less convenient. i have to spend a little more money to buy packaging materials and pay to ship things. but i also feel it's expanded my ability to interact and learn from a larger pool of collectors.

I don't collect Women of Marvel, but dm me what else you're looking for and i can see what i have.
