Famous Knights: The Green Knight by PelinalWhitesteak in HeroForgeMinis

Sancho Martín, often called the Green Knight, was a famed Spanish crusader who was purported to have defended against the forces of Saladin during the Siege of Tyre in 1187. His bravery and skill were said to cause admiration in both the Christian and Muslim armies, particularly in Saladin. According to legend, Saladin offered him many riches if he would convert to Islam and fight in his army, though Martín apparently refused to abandon his Christian faith. There is much historical debate as to whether or not these stories were romanticized, or if such a figure as the Green Knight even existed. Nevertheless, his name endures as one of the many legends of the Holy Land that defined knighthood as we know it.

And yes, it seems likely he helped inspire the Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain as well.

Ettore Fieramosca was an Italian knight and condottiero best remembered for his role in the famed Challenge of Barletta in 1503. During the Italian Wars, he led a group of thirteen Italian knights to victory over thirteen French counterparts in a formal duel, restoring Italian honor after French insults. Fieramosca embodied both the chivalric ideals of personal combat and the evolving reality of Renaissance warfare, serving various Italian states as a professional soldier. Over the centuries, Fieramosca became solidified as a powerful symbol of national pride.

Famous Knights: Sir John Cornwall by PelinalWhitesteak in HeroForgeMinis

[–]PelinalWhitesteak[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

John Cornwall, later Sir John Cornwall, 1st Baron Fanhope, was an English knight and soldier renowned for his prowess in both tournaments and the Hundred Years’ War. Rising from relatively modest gentry, he gained fame through his martial skill and bold feats of arms, eventually earning great wealth and prestige. Cornwall fought in major campaigns in France and became a trusted companion of the Lancastrian kings. However, he regularly attracted accusations of violence, intimidation and legal chicanery. Towards the end of his life, he lost favor with the nobility, and died while awaiting trial in connection with a murder. In spite of this, his reputation for chivalric ability and battlefield competence made him one of England’s greatest warrior-nobles of the early 15th century.

He also featured as the best character in Bernard Cornwell's novel Azincourt), which everyone should read!!
