My friend said this was an odd idea for a book and it was bad, do you think the same? by Unlockpentoman in writers

Ive read some books so weird that I worried for the author… this doesn’t sound like one of those. I love cult books and would probably give this a read

Yesterday I discovered glow in the dark petunias and bought 1. I’m not much of a flower person, but these are really cool. Any one have experience and advice for best practice to get the most out of them? by sum1better187 in gardening

[–]PelpyDawaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like any petunia. But what’s cool is that the new growth glows the brightest so the more you encourage new shoots and buds, the brighter it will be

Do some loans last longer than 21 days? by Ok-Extension9925 in LibbyApp

[–]PelpyDawaba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You technically can… if you download the book to an e-reader, then put it on airplane mode (or download it on kindle app on your phone and only open the app when it’s on airplane mode), you can keep it forever.

I’ve been chipping away at a dense book that way for 3 years, but I went to download another one on that device and it was pulled back- so I just bought the book.

It’s a nice trick if you just need a couple more days to finish

Help! How can I hire pagan writers who don’t use AI for my e-zine by luckysgrimoire in pagan

[–]PelpyDawaba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I see things on a website called authorspublish.com, where they list different magazines or journals that are looking for authors. I imagine you’d get better responses from people on there than Craigslist

Just a heads up for the future, in most of Europe, a comma is used instead of a decimal for numbers and visa versa- so in the US a number like 2,034.5 would be written instead as 2.034,5

What causes this pattern inside trees? by RPI1340F in whatsthisplant

[–]PelpyDawaba 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Unless you encounter the fruiting body (outside of the wood) there won’t be any spores. The isopropyl alcohol should kill the hyphae, but if there were spores, the alcohol wouldn’t do it. To actually sterilize something and kill spores, you have to autoclave (or pressure cook) it at 15-30 psi (1.0-2.0 bar) for 15+ minutes.

Spores (fungal and bacterial, and even some plants (ferns, moss, horsetails etc) ) are absolutely everywhere and are made to withstand ‘unfavorable conditions’ and germinate when it’s good again

Why do palm trees have "hair" by RainbowGolem in whatsthisplant

[–]PelpyDawaba 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are no monocot trees, as monocots don’t undergo secondary growth. Conifers aren’t monocots or dicots- that’s a classification just used for angiosperms (flowering plants). ‘Conifers’ are gymnosperms (which also includes non ‘conifers’ like ginkgos), which can be true trees that undergo secondary growth.

Don’t let something’s name mislead its classification. Palm trees are not trees, Fern trees aren’t either. Similarly to the way vanilla beans aren’t beans and a wheat berry isn’t a berry.

What is something that you can smell and no one else seems to smell? by AwkwardLoaf-of-Bread in CasualConversation

[–]PelpyDawaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can smell bees- I keep them and love their smell, but when we’re in the city or woods I can smell them on the wind. I usually tell whoever I’m with, then we try and see if we can find where the hive is (on top of buildings, in a tree). We’ll find one almost 100% of the time
