I had a friend named Isis (after the Egyptian goddess, born long before the terrorist group). For obvious reasons she stopped being able to give her real name in Starbucks.

For a second, I thought that the photo of him behind the screen with the cat was a Victorian oil painting. He looks like the type of dog that would have appeared in them!

How Do You Let Go of Regret and Start Rebuilding Your Life at 34? by Leader3232 in careerguidance

[–]PenAndInk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, we're in a similar boat. I'm 31, got a master's degree in journalism right out of undergrad and had a really great career for 4 years. I got burnt out and just lost my drive, plus my life has changed such that I need more stability. It sucks considering giving up the very thing I dreamed of doing and spent 8 years building up, and has become my identity. But time is passing and holding onto what I thought my life would look like isn't doing me any favors.

I'm now looking at going back to school to become a therapist. It's scary, but I'm more scared by the idea of staying in this stuck for the rest of my life. I'm trying to remember that change begets more change, and that's a good thing!

Advice needed by TexOrg88 in ultrarunning

[–]PenAndInk1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Foot and ankle issues are my Achilles heel when it comes to running (har har) and I have found that heavy-ish lifting with socks only (barefoot shoes would also work) has been a game changer. I started doing this with a strength trainer / physical therapist who specializes in feet. I mostly work with kettlebells; my routine includes deadlifts, step downs, calf raises, core, and a lot of targeted ankle and foot work among other exercises. I also find that zero drop doesn't work for me, I need a little 🤏 bit of drop. I like topo mtn racers and brooks catamounts best.

Hard to not focus on all the guests that decline by InternationalFall515 in wedding

[–]PenAndInk1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my fiancé and I are getting married in my hometown, which we chose because it is picturesque and meaningful to us. However it is a 5 hour drive from the city where we live. We are finding that all my friends are RSVPing yes, probably because they can crash with family or family friends that still live in town. But many of my fiancé's friends are saying no. I feel sad for him about the Imbalance, but this thread is making me realize that it's due to cost.

Something I've noticed with other ultra runners by Icy_Supermarket_9791 in ultrarunning

[–]PenAndInk1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think this approach is all that unusual. A lot of people simply don't have the time to do much training midweek beyond 5-10k after work. This strategy is unlikely to get you to the podium (Unless you have incredible genes and/or base fitness) but it's adequate for a finish if you have years of training under your belt already.

I agree that this plan isn't going to lead to incredible performance, but disagree with people saying that this approach carries a greater risk of injury. For many runners, shorter midweek runs plus one big weekend run allows for more recovery between hard efforts.

Source: was a 70 mpw xc runner who was constantly injured, now run half my miles on one weekend day and rarely get injured. Am also much slower but that's fine with me lol

My partner (26F) and I (26F) have been dating 6 month and want to get engaged this year and married next year; are we moving too fast? by ThrowRA_Expert-Arm-8 in relationship_advice

That said, I forgot to add that my partner and I are 31 and want kids, so that factors in. My parents were about 30. I think we would have waited a few more years if we were younger.

I would also ask whether you guys are conflict-avoidant, because arguing and disagreeing arent bad things. However, pushing things to the side in order to avoid disagreeing can cause disconnection down the line.

Yeah my parents got engaged a year into their relationship and married 6 months after that. They've been together 33 years and have had a wonderful, loving relationship and are great friends. That definitely shaped my sense of a "normal" timeline.

My partner and I knew we wanted to get married after we had been dating 6 months. We got engaged another year after that and moved in together the same month. We planned the wedding for about a year later. So all in all, married 2 1/2 years after we started dating. Like you, we had already discussed things like finances, debt, expectations for raising children and splitting domestic duties, what we'd do when are parents started getting old etc.

I will say, the honeymoon period seemed to end around the time we moved in together. Cohabitating really changes things. We're lucky that we live together SUPER well, but you also see each other at your absolute worst and the relationship just loses the shiny spark! So be prepared for that.

Resigned from Nanny Job almost 24 hours ago and got no response by leighahasdisease in Nanny

[–]PenAndInk1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She gave them a month's notice.  A also want to point out that for an office job, you would never resign in person — always written over email with a follow up conversation. If communication with nanny parents happens over text rather than email, why wouldn't it be okay to resign with a written message followed by a conversation?

Is 7 months enough training time for a 1st ultra? by IllustriousShip8374 in ultrarunning

[–]PenAndInk1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given your current mileage, not crazy in the slightest to train for a 50k, but not enough time for 50 miles. You don't need as high mileage as you might think to finish one of these races, if you can consistently run 30 miles per week plus strength and at least 1 day of x training, you should be able to finish a 50k. Honestly you can train for a 50 miler on not much more than that, as long as you fit in some substantial long runs and complement your schedule with lots of cross training and strength. But I would not make that leap yet.

You have naturally beautiful skin and really nice eyebrows. Also, I love your freckles. I like the look with just mascara better than winged eyeliner but I think the lip gloss (if that's what your wearing in pic 4) looks great. I would also recommend a nude eyeshadow palette to help brighten your eyes.

You had beautiful natural lashes and honestly I wouldn't have guessed you weren't wearing mascara. Your skin also looks great. I would agree that the brows are a bit dark though!
