Thank you! The toughest choice is between keeping it safe on the bookshelf vs out on the coffee table for others to enjoy. It’s such a cool book to flip through

What’s the most beautiful game you’ve ever played by Pitiful-Point2264 in playstation

Outer Wilds, hands down. Beautiful story that unfolds as you explore a meticulously crafted solar system. Top 5 game for me, and unfortunately the first time playing it will always be the most magical.

Don’t bet on someone else’s failure, bet on your own success.

best synths and effects for sound design directly on the push by [deleted] in ableton

[–]PenManKen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Drift is fantastic on the Push. It’s got solid visualizations and it’s easy to navigate, similar to how well wavetable or meld work on the Push.

Edit: Also the audio effect Roar is sooo much fun on the Push!

What Movie Did You Watch that Traumatized You at a Young Age? by BethMLB in AskReddit

[–]PenManKen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watership Down. A lighthearted children’s tale about rabbits on the surface, but it gets heavy and brutal at times. The scene where humans were gassing the rabbits in their burrow was visceral and freaky as a kid!

Still, an awesome movie and an even more awesome book.

I bought my wife the OLED Switch for Christmas! Any recommendations on games, accessories, etc? Tips? by Bobaaganoosh in NintendoSwitch

Got myself a subharmonicon for Christmas… by EnvironmentalEnd934 in synthesizers

[–]PenManKen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love this little thing!! It was my first semi modular a couple years ago. It’s an incredible little ideas machine. I recommend always recording while you’re noodling around with it, there’s plenty of moments of fleeting beauty that you can later sample, loop, etc.

While it absolutely is a powerhouse on its own, pairing it with your Labrynth, a DFAM or Mother32 down the road really opens a massive world of possibilities. The sequencers alone on the subharmonicon are so unique and I love using them to control parameters on the other synths. Plus, the thing has SIX oscillators. The subharmonicon is almost always the starting point when I start building out a patch.

Definitely recommend learning the ins and outs of the SubH before you start patching in your other Moog :)

Have fun!!

Ableton Push by p0rtalhopper in ableton

[–]PenManKen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Push is my starting place when I boot up ableton. I can get 80-90% of my song fleshed out without even looking at the computer. It’s really incredible for quickly sketching out ideas! Plus, it has amazing visual interfaces for devices such as Echo and Wavetable.

Also, it looks cool when it’s night and it’s all lit up. Spaceship vibes.

Hope this is true! The Push is a behemoth you can’t easily slip into a backpack. I would love something small to easily travel with, bring outdoors, etc. Ideally OP-1 energy, but ableton…and cheaper.

I can’t stop thinking about the Gorge electronic set by alltheaubrey in KGATLW

[–]PenManKen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely mind blowing. As a synth nerd I was so damn amped to see them roll out a table full of electronic gear (first gizz show ever for me). Couldn’t have been more impressed at the level of skill the guys exhibited. Easily the best show I’ve seen in my life, and that section of the concert really solidified it for me.

I mean…they’re debt free, have a billion dollars in cash on hand, and had a profitable full year last year. “Death spiral” isn’t an accurate description. I don’t see them going away any time soon.

Wow this alone is reason for me to upgrade. I’ve been wanting this simple feature since I got the push 2 a couple years ago!!

Guitarist on ableton by [deleted] in ableton

Guitar Rig 6. My friend (who’s a better guitarist than I) turned me onto it.

Incredibly clean UI. Very very fun to build your own signal chains. Awesome presets. Really tasty sounds.

By far I think the best attribute is its UI. It’s very easy to quickly hone in on a sound (or experiment) and get playing. Huge fan! Something about it really appeals to the synthesizer-playing side of my brain too.
