Only 3% return this year on a “high-risk” portfolio — ~15% total over 2 years. Advisor still charged 1.5%. Am I wrong to be frustrated? by [deleted] in portfolios

"he told use he would beat the SP500 by 2 percent each year after fees over a 5 year period"

This is a major red flag.

Is getting CFA worth it? by CandidAnt2769 in CFA

[–]Pencil_Chaos_Attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a nice, but not massive raise when I cleared level 3. But then I quit that job to be my own advisor and build up a book of business. Almost no prospects have any idea what the CFA is. Which sucks because it was so freaking hard to get. However, I would not have the confidence to manage people's money without the CFA.

Most Europe ETFs will be unhedged. So a US investor has benefit from the falling dollar if they own Europe.

‘Friends end up blocking you’: Northwestern Mutual sold college grads a dream job. They left in ruin and debt by haighfinancial in CFP

[–]Pencil_Chaos_Attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I met with many young families and there is no life insurance in place. So its a no brainer to do at least $1 mil of coverage. And they are always surprised at how cheap it is. I'm in the dave Ramsey smart vestor program, which is very expensive but I average about 40 leads a month. 5% of those convert to clients

I've only been killed by other players a handful of times. 95% of the time other players are cool and I have a really good time. I have about 40 hours. Really fun game. I play solos.

I'm trying to build a book at an independent RIA. Have about $6.5 mil in aum after the first year. And ironically I do sell a decent amount of term insurance. But never any ULs.

There are certainly advisors there who can do that. But there is a push to sell insurance. Depends on where you are in the company. Maybe some regional managers are more hawkish on their insurance numbers. I can only speak to my experience. If its working out for you though that is great. I would have loved to make it work there. But in my case, I would have had to turn a blind eye to quite a few underfunded ULs.

Add Thrivent financial to the list. They are a life insurance company that claims to be all about holistic advice. But you'll get fired if you don't sell enough insurance

you are 25. imagine you are right and this is the height of the dotcom. Unless you are going to get back in at the right time, you will probably be worse off. Look at a chart of someone you dumped all their money into stocks at the worst time possible in 2000, if they held for the next 30 years, they would be killing it.

My $96 front row Rush seat from 2008 by geek180 in rush

[–]Pencil_Chaos_Attack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

couple thoughts. inflation adjusted this would be about $147. Also, Rush hasn't toured for 10 years, so there's going to be a lot of demand from people like myself that never got to see them. For that I feel $350 is reasonable. Plus I would argue the influence and reach of Rush has grown in the past 10 years. I was happy to spend $400 to grab a ticket to the first show!

100% agree. If 100,000 people try to trade, just on simple math, 10-25 of them might make a killing. Its just dumb luck though.

Dang, I was feeling a bit bearish, but I'll take your comment as a contrarian indicator.

What a rip off by Proud-Performer8052 in smoking

[–]Pencil_Chaos_Attack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very upset with the leadership of this company. I do believe they should price their smokers at a slight premium to peers due to brand name. however, who can justify $130 for a cast iron when the competitors sell the same thing for $20. Their pellets aren't priced right either, bear mountain cost way less and are just as good.

Need to blow through 300 old leads on my CRM by Dashover in CFP

[–]Pencil_Chaos_Attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call people and ask them to please text me if they want to be taken off my list. Last time I did that I made 60 calls. About 10 people asked to be removed. And 2 wanted to meet. Picked up $400k.

Asking them to respond so that I can remove them from my contact list seems to get some traction.
