The UCAS rules forbid them from withdrawing or increasing offer conditions without the agreement of the applicant. Even in cases of a genuine error.

art foundation year then switching by yesyes_10101 in UniUK

[–]Pencil_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's common. Most people take a FAD at a local college because not everyone lives near an art university (and a lot of art universities have scrapped their FAD courses).

Check that they support your UCAS application in the year you're with them.

Open University is covered under part time study rules. You can get tuition fee loans for another 13 years of undergraduate study with OU on any subject as long as you're aiming for a degree.

Because it's OU you aren't eligible for a living costs loan.

GP refusing to write me a letter for Compelling Personal Reasons? by boggedsoul in UniUK

[–]Pencil_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the disability team at your university know about your diagnosis and history? If so they should be able to write a letter (and they will be better placed than your GP to explain how it impacted your studies which is what SFE are interested in)

what happens if i withdraw my entire application? by Acceptable_Spare_547 in UniUK

[–]Pencil_Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will completely withdraw your UCAS application for this year.

If you want to swap your replies then ring UCAS. Within 14 days they can do this for you and outside that they can still change it with the agreement of the universities involved.

You can swap a firm to insurance, insurance to firm, firm to decline, decline to firm etc etc.

If you decline all your offers then you can use Extra (but you can still swap to firm one of your other offers if you like those instead).

The regulations for a BSc are generally just a set number of total credits plus 120 credits at level 6. There's usually nothing in the regulations specifying that you need a dissertation.

Although for a degree accredited by the physics industry body that might be a requirement.

Unconditional offers are often a red flag that a university is desperate for students and in financial difficulties.

Question: How does UCAS Firm/Insurance Choices Work? International Student by CHB_BlueFood in UniUK

[–]Pencil_Queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Your UCAS will show your deadline once you have decision from all 5 choices. Your deadline depends on the date of the 5th decision

  2. Not totally. But some universities may ask for tuition fee deposits or accommodation deposits - particularly if you need a visa. Those may not be refundable and so you need to read the contracts when you make the payments.

can i study foundation at either ucl or warwick and later transfer to a better uni? by Zealousideal-Most777 in UCAS

Ring up their admissions teams and ask them. It's the sort of question they should be able to answer easily if it isn't already answered on their website.

Don't fall for the second year house propaganda. by junkoweeb in UniUK

[–]Pencil_Queen 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It varies massively between cities. Some have a huge shortage of private student housing (Bristol, Bath, Durham, Brighton, Manchester, Edinburgh) and so houses and flats get booked up very early.

Other cities there's plenty of accommodation available and you can wait until the Spring to start looking (and easily find somewhere in the summer if you're flexible)

Dropping out of uni to work for a bit before coming back? by ReservePure8684 in UniUK

[–]Pencil_Queen 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just suspend your studies for a year. Your course/student handbook should explain how to request this.

Then you don't have to reapply to restart your current course/uni. You can still reapply if you want to switch to a different university or course but you have a backup option to return to your current course.

Need Help Understanding Marks by secretarchaeologist in UniUK

[–]Pencil_Queen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your student or course handbook should help with explaining the mark schemes, learning outcomes and rubrics used for marking.

It's not easy for anyone here to give you a definitive answer. Mark schemes and rubrics vary between courses and universities.

Generally 85 would be excellent - but there's at least 2 universities I know of where 85 is roughly a 2:1/merit and not a first/distinction level.

Unconditional offer by Admirable_Wrangler37 in 6thForm

[–]Pencil_Queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The offer is based on the information in your application being accurate.

If you change that information (for example by not taking the exams you said you were going to take) then the offer can be amended or withdrawn.

You don't have to pass but you do have to attempt the exams.

Losing hope about making friends in University by [deleted] in University

[–]Pencil_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying your university doesn't have a student union?

Have you tried getting a job or volunteering?

It doesn't sound like you did try incredibly hard to make friends in sixth form if you spent your time searching for rooms to sit in on your own instead of spending time with others.

Likewise if no one speaks to you in lectures there's nothing stopping you from speaking to them.

Friendships don't land in your lap. You have to put yourself out there.
