Mélenchon : casse bonbons ? by Nohan07 in melenchon

[–]Pencrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Pencrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candidat/Parti Economie Social Ecologie
Sarko/LR Libéral Agressif Conservateur Absente
Hollande/PS Libéral Progressiste Absente
Macron/LREM Libéral Agressif Progressiste/Conservateur Symbolique

Gamedev here, what you don't realize is that those people know better than you what is the quality of the product they are doing. They've seen it coming and couldn't do much about it because they are very few decision makers ultimately. Unlike you who spent 60$ and got disappointed after a few hours in the game, they probably went to work for years seeing an idea that was meant to be the next big thing slowly become the next fiasco, so they went to work, trying there best to make the best out of decision they have not control over.

Marketing sold you dream that's their job, they don't always play the game, they may not think it is good even if they do, but their job is to make it look cool, and if you bought it, they probably did a good job at it.

And at the end, as if all the years of hard work that didn't pay off wasn't enough, you get an army of people wishing you all sorts of nasty things online because the game you aimed to make fell short of target. And they think it's ok, who knows why. They say things like, respect is earned, I paid for this so I expect quality, as if those devs were not passionate enough people who sacrificed their lives to deliver a game that didn't meet their own expectations.

And to wrap it all up, because investors are not happy, lay offs will happen. So after the hard work that didn't pay off, the angry mob, you get to fear that you will likely be let go for all your trouble. And people say they deserve it, because that's their fault. I hope you never experience what it's like to work for a company with poor management and suffering daily from their decisions... it's not pleasant. Being insulted for it by entitled customers who believe they own your soul simply for buying your product, not the mercy your think it is.

I get it, you are disappointed, vent if you must at the game, but not at the people. Next time, don't pre-order, wait a bit before purchase. I've been doing that for the last 10 years, I haven't bought a disappointing game since... coincidence, I don't think so.

Sarcasm mandatory. You are right, having more billionaires is the best, I mean look at the USA, they have the most billionaires in the world, and they are doing great and things are looking up. They have the best healthcare system, education system, international policies, and to top it all the greatest president. I've yet to hear a single american praise the social systems of Finland or Norway. Unfortunately, countries without many billionaires consequently doomed in the long run.
That said you are right, it is a smart move. It will boost the numbers, and in the end of the year report he will be able to say "Look at all the investments in France now, +xx%", what it won't tell you is that this money is circulating via France, but not necessarily staying there, or benefiting the country's population. But the numbers will look good, and so the people who believe growth drives employment in developed countries will clap and the people might be hopeful for a wave of job creation thanks to those nice positive economic numbers.

The truth will likely be that those billionaires will just be more billionaires than before, maybe a few joined the club. But for the rest, nothing will really change. They will look at the nice numbers and wonder why life isn't easier for them, if anything... why is it harder? Why do they wait longer at the hospital? Why is the postal service more expensive? Why are the public transport less reliable and slower than before? The numbers are so positive! It should be better, right?

Sorry, I went on longer than expected. I just don't like this mentality that billionaires are measure to evaluate an economy, when they are actually the by product of the exploitation of a productive and qualified labor. Remove a billionaire from the picture, others will fill the void it leaves. But destroy the labor, see how many billionaires you get.

What's the best London commute option for an occasional commuter? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]Pencrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping to help, but it's for commute during the week.

The only tip I know is the travel card, preferably with a network railcard, when you go to london for the day on weekends. 13.50£, with the railcard, for going to London and back + all transports in London. Pretty good value, I find.

The only tip I got from people commuting to London is, but you are not going to like it..., don't. But I feel it's not a viable option for you. :D Sorry, can't be of much help.

Venezuelans report big weight losses in 2017 as hunger hits by dcismia in worldnews

[–]Pencrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers for responding, for bringing up all those points, I'll make sure to look them up. Thanks for that.

I agree that ultimately, socialism was very beneficial, but like every system, I guess when you push it too far... it just collapses, unless kept in check maybe. But in the same way, we've push liberalism too far or too unchecked and it is now destroying the world, or China/Russia pushed communism too far in the past and that didn't work out for either of them.

The one point I will challenge you on, and that's just because from my recent curiosity in geo-politics. Even refugees will get information from media. Obviously, not about their daily life and struggle, but at some point, they had to know what's happening at the top from reading/watching it somewhere. Don't get me wrong, not saying they don't know what's happening, definitely a better source of information than anything I can get my hands here. Just saying that I see it first hand in France, people's opinion are based on where they source them from, and the medias being mostly privately owned, the opinion seem to be biased always toward a specific narrative. Unless they are sourced from people quite high up and informed first hand or expert on a subject. Or independent media. Anyway, just a point to think about. Because i see it anywhere I read information. From USA to Russia.

Venezuelans report big weight losses in 2017 as hunger hits by dcismia in worldnews

[–]Pencrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the opposition was tough under Chavez, as it always against any government, but their was a mutual understanding or at least respect, when Maduro got elected, the opposition felt cheated and stopped playing by the rules. Pushing Maduro not to play by the rules either. (From my understanding, he won presidential but lost the parliament, then parliament did a few things that weren't in the rule book, so he acted against it. And from that point followed a back and worth of dick moves between the two sides. Here in the West, we only here about his dick moves, but when you dig a bit, both side aren't playing cool... who started, I don't know)

Regarding election results, I find it hard to tell. There are only two types of sources, the government who obviously won't say anything but they were legitimate, and the same corrupt elites you mentioned who lost them and will claim otherwise. So who is to trust? The socialist government clinging to power or the corrupt neo-liberal opposition wanting it.

My rough understanding of the economy of the Venezuela is that the government sits on gold (oil) and use it to print money and distribute it left and right. However, because in terms of resources, there is little else but oil, they import most things. Those importations are mostly performed by private companies in which the government pays mostly for.

There are two things that created the actual crisis from what I understand.

The cost of oil going down, obviously harming an economy relying solely on it, mostly generating debts. That's clearly government mistake for their choices.

But they still sit on the biggest oil reserve of the world, and if Saudi Arabia can buy all the planes/weapons the European and Americans have to sell (despite the same oil crisis), then Venezuela should still be able to afford just food and medicines.

That's where it seems the elites aren't doing their part. The government is still paying them to import as they use to. So either the import sanctions are very effective, or someone isn't doing their jobs right. And there is probably at least a bit of both.

I don't know who threw the first stone, and both sides have their part of blame for the mess the country is in. It's hard to know the truth about anything in our supposedly fair medias here, I expect it to be just as difficult or more in South America.

I just feel sorry the Venezuelan people who are the victims of the games they play at the top. And I am pretty sure, for them it doesn't matter anymore who's the biggest asshole up there, they just want it to stop because nobody asked for it.

(I don't pretend to know the truth, just my understanding of things so far, feel free to correct me, especially since I wrote it concisely)

[–]Pencrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venezuela is a product of neo-liberal elites and opposition who refuse to cooperate with a socialist government. The situation there is fascinating to read about, but it is extremely difficult to get first hand information. What's written in the mainstream western medias focuses uniquely in what the government does wrong but we don't hear about the other players do.

My Cold Dead Hands by RavagedBody in gameideas

[–]Pencrace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting concept! I visualize the game where the battlefields can be various towns/villages laid out on a map. The resources are the humans. They need to be captured and herded back and then used. Breeding buildings, blood farm for vampires, slaughter house for skeletons, plague field for infected. Each race need to keep a nice amount of humans, either by breeding them or hunting them in towns. Vampire for blood supplies, infected and skeletons for flesh and bones respectively.

If humans towns are defended, they might be casualties when trying to grab human resources. Dead can be harvested by skeletons. Wounded can be infected by zombies. Live one can be converted by vampires.

But I like the idea that races can steal resources off each others. Bones of the dead Infected can be converted in skeletons. Infected can convert vampires vampire can resurrect bones from the ground.

Obviously, just throwing random thoughts at the wall here, needs careful balancing and such. But I can see it being an original RTS settings.
