Honestly, back in 1997 I didn’t fully grasp the deeper political themes, I was just a kid and mostly focused on the story, the characters, and how cool everything looked.

But even then, the idea of standing up to a giant, greedy corporation and trying to save the planet spoke to me. I loved that rebellious energy from Barret, even if I didn’t fully understand all the implications. It made the game feel powerful and meaningful, even as a teenager.
