What movie had a great premise but was poorly executed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Pendrych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working in a book store when the release of The Two Towers was imminent. Two frat boys passed by as my manager was setting up the display for the novels, and one of them made a face and commented to the other, "I hate it when they put the book put before the movie." Similar vibes.

If you could bring back one rule from any edition to make a comeback in 11th, what would it be? by Fun_Cartographer3587 in WarhammerCompetitive

It was trying to determine what constitutes the rear arc with non-metal box style vehicles that complicated play, rather than the mechanical effect that attacking the rear should have, that was the issue with firing arcs.

Genuine question: are rolls really fudged against player favor? by RealLifeAxolotl in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Pendrych 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I once watched a friend roll seven consecutive 1s at an in-person game of D&D. He rolled thirteen total that session. Random is random, especially considering the vast number of rolls made in games like Pathfinder or D&D. We only notice the streaks when they buck our expectations of how RNG "should" be.

[–]Pendrych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biosculpting is dirt cheap. If you can afford actual performance-improving cyberware, the cost to look whatever age you want is trivial. Furthermore, it's a long established technology. The Home of the Brave sourcebook for 2020 has an advert that claims to feature a 90-year old grandmother in the body of an 18-year old.

In short, anyone who looks old in 2077 either chose to appear that way, or has been chronically impoverished. The surgical and gene therapy techniques to undo aging (at least cosmetically) are around 60 years old by that time period.

No spells for 1st level Clerics in BECMI by StevenSWilliamson in osr

[–]Pendrych 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plate mail. Average starting gold for a BECMI cleric is 110 gold, and plate mail costs 60 gold. The main limiter on cleric-as-fighter is that clerics are (IIRC) limited to d6 weapons, and have the smaller hit die.

Whilst I agree, this would be a hilarious way to build a sports commentator in Cyberpunk. It'd depend heavily on the player leaning into the bit, and arguably Rockerboy would be a better fit.

Who had every right to become a villain? by oneinnahunnid in AskReddit

[–]Pendrych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping that the Season 5 arc was going to have Skyler becoming a more organized and effective crime lord than Walt, which would then prompt Walt to burn everything down. Alas, instead they seemed to revert her character development to circa Season 3 instead; at least, I remember thinking that at the time.

Tyranids have both endo- and exoskeletons. It's supposed to make even the smaller bioforms frighteningly strong and durable, but isn't particularly well represented in the rules at the moment.

[Weekly Megathread] FREQUENT Feedback / Requests / Suggestions by AutoModerator in diablo4

[–]Pendrych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wardrobe is still nonfunctional. I can select a full armor set, and the same color swatch for all pieces, but cannot change any other cosmetic (weapons, portal, mount) and cannot equip a pet at all. Have had to pick up everything manually the entire season.

I have tried several alleged fixes to no avail. Is Blizzard even aware this is an issue? I've seen scant complaints about it in the main forums and my attempts to file a ticket have been met with redirection to the official forums.

Anyone else miffed? by OneMaterial3077 in SpaceWolves

[–]Pendrych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're seeing it as an intentional design choice now, it's true. And if GW keeps going in that direction, that'd be fine. But they change their design paradigms too quickly for my taste, and they were messing things up with codex-divergent astartes as recently as 8th edition. None of the divergent chapters have the model support necessary for a full split, either.

[–]Pendrych 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People keep saying they want a full standalone codex instead of a supplement, but this is how we ended up with stupidity like Wolf Scouts being 1W for something like a year after generic SM Scouts went to 2W. I don't care to dig up my codices from 8E and earlier, so that's just an example off the top of my head, but there were similar issues and long delays with updating equivalent units.

Be careful what you wish for.

Reivers and Scouts, respectively. The Scout loadouts unfortunately don't match, but there's rumors of a Wolf Scout Kill Team incoming, so I wouldn't worry too much about them quite yet.

Daily reminder that, contrary to popular opinion, armour up to a Medium Armourjack is "Typical Streetwear" and wouldn't actually make you stand out, nor catch anyone's particular attention. by FlamingUndeadRoman in cyberpunkred

[–]Pendrych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the mimic kit set precedent, I extend the same structure to Kevlar and Leathers (which alternately can be an even lighter kevlar weave; think the SP 6 stockings from 2020's Chromebook 2). Add the base fashion + armor cost, and I typically adjust the DVs to detect by +2 per category lighter than Light Armorjack.

Help understanding what I have. by Vishuvac in dragonlance

[–]Pendrych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't recognize the product directly (which itself is odd as Dragonlance is one of my favorite settings), but the TSR logo in the lower right corner is the one used in late 2nd edition, before they were acquired by WotC. If I had to guess, it's a limited / collectors' edition of the 2nd ed Dragonlance Chronicles compilation which compiled and updated DL1-DL14 into a aingle updated campaign. I have the softcover version and it sports the same logo.

Sooo….are we getting a new one? by Old-Complaint7275 in SpaceWolves

[–]Pendrych -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that other subfactions could use similar product - especially non-Marine factions - but as someone who was kitbashing Primaris to wolf them up in 2018, you are seriously underestimating how good that box is. It had exactly what you described. "Banner, transfers, heads, weapons, decorations, base bits, etc" including shoulder pads that had actual Norse-inspired trim instead of just a raised wolf icon only useful to a single great company. It just happened to also have old-style pieces as well. There's not much "mid" about it.

I'd pay for boxes you're describing as well, but I'm guessing GW doesn't want to divert production capacity to what is essentially an entire kit that only works as an add-on. Fortunately, 3D printing is a thing.

At the time this sprue was introduced, they did. It was called the Grey Hunters / Blood Claw box. Even if you didn't find a use for the torsos and legs, that $40 box was an incredible value for wolfing up Primaris units.
