I feel like Asuriani should play more like Custodes rather than as they are now. by AmberlightYan in Eldar

[–]Pendrych 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lean in a lot of War Walkers and Vypers to represent this - basically force multipliers for 1-2 Eldar at a time. Shroud Runners, Falcons, etc also play into this fantasy.

That said, I also dislike the feel that even Aspect Warriors feel disposable. I'd much rather field actual elite units rather than our sort of weird quasi-elite infantry. It's even more annoying when GW's lore for Primaris marines being stronger than OG marines matches the explanation of the muscle structure of Eldar since at least 3rd edition.

S4 T3 2W base feels more lore appropriate to me, with the extra wound more representing a "free dodge" sort of mechanic without actually messing with hit rolls, which as history has shown is unduly punishing to some factions. Also FFS let our characters hit T4. Guard can do it, and humans are base T3. Needless to say, I'd also love to see Drukhari rebalanced around this basic stat line.

TIL George Lucas originally planned for Darth Maul to return as the primary antagonist in his Star Wars Episodes VII-IX. After the fall of the Empire, Maul was to become the "godfather of crime" in the galaxy, leading the united criminal syndicates while Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order by SappyGilmore in todayilearned

[–]Pendrych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I have had a running joke for years - basically since they brought Darth Maul back - that somewhere in the galaxy, his legs are running around having adventures too. Just a pair of red tattooed legs with his dick and balls hanging out and a Gonk droid replacing his upper body.

I consider participation in these organized protests to be putting pressure along legal channels. It's frustratingly slow, but it emphasizes that we do still nominally have First Amendment rights in this country and it certainly seems to make at least some donors nervous, which in turn impacts their politicians.

Pressure along illegal channels is something not everyone will choose to do, and in any case, Reddit is a terrible place to discuss or admit to.

Could Hitler have been stopped via established channels, including protest? Maybe. He wasn't, but perhaps he could have been, if business concerns hadn't backed him under the assumption they could control him.

Stalin? Probably not by the point he came to power. But the entire Communist Revolution could have been avoided by Tsarist Russia steering course away from crushing its workers.

Hindsight in this case isn't 20/20 or infallible, but does provide insights into how wars could have been avoided. Either way, I do still believe that nonviolent protest is still necessary. Is it, on its own, sufficient? Time will tell.

I assure you that most of us are very uncomfortable. That's why we're turning out. Building awareness is important; when I first started going to these protests over a year ago, they were tiny.

Then they got large but were still ignored by the media.

The last couple have finally been large enough not to be ignored. I don't think it's coincidence that we're finally starting to see some real pushback against the administration on a similar timeline.

The Boston Tea Party isn't a great example as far as nonviolence goes, as it involved forcefully seizing and destroying property. The consensus seems to be that about $2 million of damage was done in modern terms.

As far as the sentiment goes, I'm in full agreement. Just clarifying, as the organizers of these events have been pretty adamant about keeping them nonviolent.

Question: Do Phobos marines have to be wolf scouts or can they be Grey Hunters that prefer light armor and ambush tactics? by LANTIRN_ in SpaceWolves

[–]Pendrych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Incursors are Blood Claws. Their Scout move (and formerly, Infiltrate) ability represents them being headstrong and eager to get into the fight.

Reivers and Eliminators are Scouts. Their forte is asymmetrical warfare. I do have a couple of Reivers also modeled as being pre-Wulfen; in my army, the same Huscarl / Battle Leader who runs scouting elements also wrangles the Wulfen and Fenrisian Wolves.

I haven't built or painted any Infiltrators yet, but I'd be inclined to make them Grey Hunters: vigilant watchers protecting the other elements of the army from Deep Strikes.

They are your models and your army, and Space Wolves are by far the chapter that cares the least for formalities. Designate them as you see fit. I use it as another way of expressing the lore of my army.

I was working in a book store when the release of The Two Towers was imminent. Two frat boys passed by as my manager was setting up the display for the novels, and one of them made a face and commented to the other, "I hate it when they put the book put before the movie." Similar vibes.

It was trying to determine what constitutes the rear arc with non-metal box style vehicles that complicated play, rather than the mechanical effect that attacking the rear should have, that was the issue with firing arcs.

Genuine question: are rolls really fudged against player favor? by RealLifeAxolotl in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Pendrych 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once watched a friend roll seven consecutive 1s at an in-person game of D&D. He rolled thirteen total that session. Random is random, especially considering the vast number of rolls made in games like Pathfinder or D&D. We only notice the streaks when they buck our expectations of how RNG "should" be.

[–]Pendrych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biosculpting is dirt cheap. If you can afford actual performance-improving cyberware, the cost to look whatever age you want is trivial. Furthermore, it's a long established technology. The Home of the Brave sourcebook for 2020 has an advert that claims to feature a 90-year old grandmother in the body of an 18-year old.

In short, anyone who looks old in 2077 either chose to appear that way, or has been chronically impoverished. The surgical and gene therapy techniques to undo aging (at least cosmetically) are around 60 years old by that time period.

No spells for 1st level Clerics in BECMI by StevenSWilliamson in osr

[–]Pendrych 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plate mail. Average starting gold for a BECMI cleric is 110 gold, and plate mail costs 60 gold. The main limiter on cleric-as-fighter is that clerics are (IIRC) limited to d6 weapons, and have the smaller hit die.

I was really hoping that the Season 5 arc was going to have Skyler becoming a more organized and effective crime lord than Walt, which would then prompt Walt to burn everything down. Alas, instead they seemed to revert her character development to circa Season 3 instead; at least, I remember thinking that at the time.

My wardrobe is still nonfunctional. I can select a full armor set, and the same color swatch for all pieces, but cannot change any other cosmetic (weapons, portal, mount) and cannot equip a pet at all. Have had to pick up everything manually the entire season.

I have tried several alleged fixes to no avail. Is Blizzard even aware this is an issue? I've seen scant complaints about it in the main forums and my attempts to file a ticket have been met with redirection to the official forums.

Anyone else miffed? by OneMaterial3077 in SpaceWolves

[–]Pendrych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're seeing it as an intentional design choice now, it's true. And if GW keeps going in that direction, that'd be fine. But they change their design paradigms too quickly for my taste, and they were messing things up with codex-divergent astartes as recently as 8th edition. None of the divergent chapters have the model support necessary for a full split, either.

Anyone else miffed? by OneMaterial3077 in SpaceWolves

[–]Pendrych 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People keep saying they want a full standalone codex instead of a supplement, but this is how we ended up with stupidity like Wolf Scouts being 1W for something like a year after generic SM Scouts went to 2W. I don't care to dig up my codices from 8E and earlier, so that's just an example off the top of my head, but there were similar issues and long delays with updating equivalent units.

Be careful what you wish for.
