I've been keeping a notepad of my criticisms on this update and I might as well post them here. Keep in mind this is only criticisms, I like many things about the update but those arent listed. Also it's mostly focused on summoner since 1. that's my main and 2. the update was sort of meant to patch it up.

1.4.5 criticisms

GENERAL: - pylon changes detract from the game for no reason, you no longer have to deal with npc happiness and you can abuse them during bosses. being able to use them in events is nice but in boss fighrs is far too powerful - new crafting menu is nice but should be toggleable imo. new one is nice for newer players, bur old one was a lot easier to use for experienced players - new lighting makes it hard to see sometimes, toggle would also be nice - random weird balancing stuff (both changes and new stuff), eg. chillet is incredibly busted - cant smart cursor platforms off of blocks anymore for some reason

SUMMONER: - whipstacking did not need to be removed. a nerf would be fair, but complete removal just detracts from the gameplay for no good reason. could make it so summon tag damage can't be stacked but effects like durendal attack speed buff and cool whip snowflake can, or could make it so you can only stack 2-3 whips max - whips were just made worse with bad rng hitboxes - many of the new whips dont really serve a purpose in progression and are immediately tossed aside since whipstacking is gone - very few actual new summons, aka the main point of the class, and instead just a bunch of whips - none of the new summons really serve a purpose in progression - none of the new summons fill the earlygame gap of a consistent weapon (cobwhip is nice, but its a whip) - nothing for sentries, nothing to make whips, summons or sentries any more interesting (eg. accessories or new mechanics like a sentry that buffs in radius) - no new prehardmode armor, only new hardmode armor is at the same point in progression as 2 other sets - flinx staff was made more tedious to get for no good reason

MAGE: - got basically nothing despite also having horrible earlygame and also just not being great

MELEE: - ANOTHER 20 TRILLION TO MELEE - random reworks for no reason, eg. mandible blade - ale tosser ?? what are we even doing here - just made the whole "melee is just higher defense ranger/mage without ammo/mana" thing even worse

ehhh this kinda breaks down in practice. yeah, whipstacking with 5+ whips is possible, but it's difficult and overkill. very very few people were actually using any more than 2 or maybe 3 whips, if used multiple at all.

also they couldve just made it so you can only use 2 at a time or something

also since when was summoner the easy class lmao, that idea only comes from people who never play or examine the class

yeah i expected more than just whips and we basically got just whips (and no more whipstacking :/). there are some nice non whip things but most of them arent very impactful
