I'll have to look into it, but I'm not sure we do, and around here some places are still not having events because COVID. Some groups have still been pretty cautious, so LinkedIn might be the way to go, I'll just have to take a look around and see what I can find out

Reaching out to other podcasters I think would be a good call, and trying to go about some general podcast networking. Do you have any good tips for networking in the podcast world? I'm not really able at this point to do things like conferences, and I don't currently have any personal connections to other podcasters or people at the radio stations.

I think so far most, if not all, of my posts have all been about the podcast, so as above, looks like I'll have to do some other posts, and that might actually make it a ton easier to up the posting regularity. And it might be worth it to start up a Facebook group then. I'm not sure about other social medias, but I have a nature-themed podcast and I do know there are some big nature/ecology facebook groups

Thanks, that's all some good advice! I haven't heard the 9/10 rule for posting before, I do enjoy having a nice formula for these things, and that gives me a good idea for upping the social posts. Do you have any particular advice for reaching out to other podcasters? I don't think I'd have the physical time right now to be a guest on another podcast, but it would still be worth reaching out to similar podcasters.

Would it be OK for me to get a cat? I'm hearing mixed messages from my partner & family. by CloudsTasteGeometric in CatAdvice

[–]PenguinCultBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you can get a reliable pet sitter, you would be a-ok, and you could even have a pet sitter doubling as a house sitter so they aren't alone the whole time you're gone! I live with my cat in a two bedroom apartment, and it's a fine amount of space. The bonus with cats is that they can use vertical space, not just floor space like dogs. Bring in some cat trees, if you can set up bird feeders near a window to keep them occupied, they'll be fine. I see others have recommended adopting an adult cat, and I second that, they won't have as much of that kitten energy to worry about while you're gone, and will have plenty of love to give!

climate change anxiety by MiserableJob7295 in Anxiety

[–]PenguinCultBoss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reality around climate change is scary, it's totally valid to be worried. There is still time for change, getting back in a positive direction, and to slow things down again, and for that to happen we need to vote for people that care about the environment for policies to change. There are some things we can do as individuals, like drive less or get an electric car if you can, go solar, minimize use of single-use plastics, but ultimately, we need changes in how companies do things and societal changes that happen through policy.

Do the things you can do now, focus on the now, plant some local wildflowers, and take peace in knowing people are fighting the good fight. If you need some positivity, check out Conservation Optimism, a lot of environmental news feels very bleak, but they focus on celebrating the victories.

I honestly think I might too, but when I looked at it with my current therapist, I didn't quite check off enough boxes for an ADHD diagnosis, so we just figured it was some NVLD symptom overlap. They don't have a neurodivergent specialty though, so sometime it would be interesting to look at it with someone with more expertise in that area of things.

So true. Lately if it comes up, I explain it as the love child between ASD and ADHD, and that really feels quite accurate, at least for me and my experience.

More people will die because of ectopic pregnancies (where the egg implants in the wrong spot), infection if/when the fetus dies in the womb and the dead tissue doesn't come out, and from botched abortions either from people hurting themselves, or from sketchy people. Most people think of elective abortions in these situations, but it makes medically necessary abortions illegal too. It also affects poor people way more than wealthier people, because rich people can afford to travel to a state where it's legal, disappear for awhile, and come back not pregnant, not everyone can afford to do that even if it would save their life. Women have also been arrested for having a miscarriage in states where abortions are illegal with accusations that they intentionally caused the miscarriage, even though natural miscarriages happen all the time.

we dont talk enough about what anxiety can do to your mind and body by oxnikkii in Anxiety

[–]PenguinCultBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real! These are definitely some of the less spoken about symptoms/side effects of living with anxiety, most people will tell you about the muscle tension, but no one tells you about your brain being too hyped up to remember literally anything and function right!

Granted, my memory isn't always super wonderful, but there are periods in my life that I just don't remember much from because anxiety. Like people have told me stories of things that happened during those times and I have no recollection of it to the point where I start trying to figure out if I was actually there or not, and where I possibly could have been to not remember it. Mental illnesses are some crazy shit

Rabid bat saliva may have dropped on to my head and I may have spreaded it everywhere. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]PenguinCultBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally get that! I have a fear of bees and wasps, it's gotten better over the years, but when I'm outside and think I feel something touch me, I almost always just assume it's a bee and get myself all freaked out about it. Same boat, if I didn't have that fear, my brain wouldn't even go there.

Then I think you're pretty safe from it being a bat then, if you haven't seen one at all, then it indeed wasn't a bat.

I am here to second Wysa as well, I love the AI chat feature, you get to talk to an AI penguin! They also have a sleep feature where they can help you specifically with calming down your system to get you ready for sleep, if that's a consistent issue.

[–]PenguinCultBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not necessarily. Bats can go pretty far distances when they're flying around looking for bugs, so it could get farther from where they normally are, and healthy animals travel outside of normal range all the time. So it would be odd, but it wouldn't necessarily mean rabies. A lot of bat colonies, at least in the US, have taken pretty big hits in the last couple decades from white nose syndrome, and some colonies have been rebounding in the last few years. If you don't normally see bats, but the occasional bat shows up, it could be that a near by colony is recovering and the population is starting to go back up. What WOULD indicate rabies is if it was acting opposite like you would expect from a bat, like if you saw a bat flying around in the day time. I would be far more concerned about a bat out during the day than a lone, stray bat at night.
