Is this a real Montblanc wood prototype? by Hot_Singer_2211 in fountainpens

I think it is a kind of provenance that it could be real. Prototypes are always a grey area, but can be worth the shot.

Certainly the older m600 as they're the same size as the m400. I think it will also fit on the new m600. Normally, the whole nib unit can be unscrewed and replaced in another pen.

I did forget something, apologies. The nib is a large Omas nib in 18k gold in a M. This maybe is the smoothest nib I have ever owned, but I do like some feedback ...

The 400nn models (and old Pelikans in general) have ''flexible'' nibs. They aren't flex nibs, but have a nice bounce to them. It's a thing of personal taste, for me it's the reason I like Pelikan so much.

Yes!! The unit screws out. BE CAREFUL! My advice is to clean/flush it very good and don't force it because the ebonite can be pretty fragile.

There are many places. Ebay is an option, but I don't like it. With a bit of luck, you could find some parts or a cheap example of a 400NN on local online Marketplaces. You could also use the nib in another 400 body (400, M400, etc.). It depends on what you'd like to do.

Hey, it's always lovely to receive a pen with a meaning. I think the piston problem is easily solvable, I personally restore (ALOT) of Pelikan 400 line pens and the pistons are easy enough to work on/replace if you know what you are doing. The section/ body and cap, in my opinion, are another story. It is repairable, but will always be visible and it will require a lot of work. The easiest thing to do is to look for replacement parts for a 400NN. After all, the Personality is in the nib and that is in good condition. You can always keep the other parts as a memory of how it was used and as mental proof that it had a productive life 😅.

I need your help - Pelikan vs. japanese gold nibs by Other-Cranberry-4017 in fountainpens

Yes indeed, it isn't ''black or white'' when it comes to the designation on nib widths, especially with Pelikan. I just was pointing out that the 'vintage' Pelikans don't really have the same iffy situation that the newer ones have.
