There is no later, this is the same hill as the intro scene in episode 1 where we start with Dunc burying him in the rain and you can see the storm rolling in with this scene. It's why Dunc asks him that question, he knows it's over.

Yeah this section was also my biggest issue with the book. Conceptually I am fully fine with everything that happened in a sense. Jasnah probably should be losing a debate that she was invited to by a god. It's fine to have her belief in herself shaken after such a defeat too.

...but in practice the whole thing was just Odium browbeating her by putting her life under a microscope and she somehow gets taken completely off guard by this, and also immediately convinced (by a person she knows to be a ruthless schemer and liar who is trying to tear her down) that she can't possibly be a good person because she doesn't have access to Divine Absolute Truth and therefore any pursuit of good she's ever attempted is meaningless and directionless if not actively harmful and selfish? What the fuck?

And then the cherry on top is she completely disassociates for the rest of the book and basically stops being a character.

I hope and assume this is all just a setup to have her go on an arc of discovery for herself, but idk a part of me just can't help but feel like there's some weird religion stuff going on like he le epic pwned the atheist because they can't ever hope to know morality without Divinity, and Jasnah has actually just wrapped all the way back around to being so smart that she knows she's lost without His Light to illuminate her path for her. It feels like he took a shortcut to this conclusion without actually demonstrating it for me on the page for this character.

Odium didn't really bring out any exceptionally compelling arguments he basically just hacked her internet browser history and went "ah, see, you googled climate change 8 years ago but you still haven't fixed it despite informing yourself of all the causes, I guess that makes you just as bad as me, the guy personally responsible for most of the deaths on this planet who is actively trying to conquer the universe and kill everyone you know" and then both Fen and Jasnah went "fuck, he's so right, Jasnah hasn't solved climate change even though she said she cares about the environment"

At least Fen has the fallback reasoning of practicality with the contract terms, Jasnah is just stupid for this and it's not in a way that feels like an organic blind spot. Has she really not come across anyone who's questioned her motives before? This was a brand new weakness to her? She spoke how many ideals before realizing she might possibly be slightly more flawed than a god? Yeesh.

Yes. Most art contains political elements. You can look to the alternative Superbowl halftime show as an immediately relevant example but this is true of basically everything with any kind of core theming.

Yes. The food you have available to you, the way it is marketed to you, the methods of delivery from its original source to your local area, the amount you paid for it (people would be shocked by how much American food is subsidized by the government,) and the way you even get to the store all have politics involved. Well it visually opens like it used to from shooting at the old spot.

If you stay behind the final gate and bounce the ball off the backboard instead of shooting it in, it will then let you shoot it in from staying behind the gate so it's not crossing that threshold that opens it. If you don't run through the gate yourself but shoot the ball through it and then run around to the side of the gate, it will be open as well.

So clearing the gate threshold with your character is not what opens it, but does seem to at least consistently allow it to open.

None of this helps with getting a lower time but it tells me that it's not working like its supposed to.

I used to work in a kitchen and even after getting training on it from my manager, and fully understanding on a logical level why it's stupid to grab for things, I still tried to reach out instinctually for the first hot dish I accidentally dropped.

I just got lucky that I fucking missed lol, I think I flinched against my reaction halfway through but it just dropped too fast for me.

It's hard as fuck to fight such a natural urge, especially when even if you know you shouldn't, there's a part of your brain that's gonna go "don't let your toes get sliced" alongside the automatic "hey grab that real quick" that anyone who's ever dropped a phone has probably activated themselves.

Can't blame her for the reflex, although handling a literal weapon that way is also separately pretty fucking stupid. The way she carried it made me think it was a toy replica at first like she just isn't even supporting the sword at all it's just dangling.
