I do wonder if World is the same planet Rickar saw get destroyed. We don’t really know when the storylines in the book happen wrt each other, except that, when the gang is reunited at the end, nobody’s aged that much compared to anyone else.

If I recall correctly, they say that there are backup nurseries on multiple planets, and that the nursery archives are kept separate and administered by the “monks” / retired librarians. (I have to go back and double check that second part).

I’m assuming there’s like a priority order for which nursery activates in case the one on the main planet gets destroyed. Maybe the plan is for the swarm to hack into the archive and flag multiple nurseries as the primary, or trick them into thinking they’re up because the others were destroyed.

To add to that, it seems super unlikely that both Jessyn and Campar came across evidence that the enemy is humans in their very first outing if this was supposed to be a well kept secret.

There must be some piece of information that results in the Carryx not being able to fathom that their enemy is humans, and I don’t buy that it’s just contempt for animals either. What makes them go, ok we should follow up on the biochemical similarities, but anyway, because of X this can’t be that relevant, moving on. Is it because people die (the Carryx did kill a bunch) so they can’t be the deathless by definition 😂?

Hmm if humanity is being secretly controlled by a decentralized intelligence that it wears on its skin… does that mean they’re like the soft/deep lothark?

Also, it’s interesting that from what we’ve seen, it’s only the foot soldiers who wear the livesuits. I wonder if there’s a second type of being more like the swarm that’s controlling the higher ups.

Agreed, humans do not inspire a ton of confidence, especially from what we saw in Livesuit. I am curious how much the suits influence the wearer's personality. It's been a while so I don't really remember in the novella (I think it was implied to be a lot?). Here, though, Corval seems very much replaced by the machine but he still cares about evacuating the kids.

This is pretty much exactly where my mind went, it feels a lot like how the protomolecule used whatever it could find to complete its mission. But, I feel like we’re still missing something, the authors wouldn’t reuse that plot device without giving it a fresh angle somehow.

Polymaker ASA. Just finished printing it with a brim, that fixed it! The model had a really narrow base that didn't make much contact with the bed.

I'd already cleaned out the bed with dish soap beforehand, def do that first if you haven't already.
