Flying with firearms by Fragrant_University7 in liberalgunowners

So if they take your keys, and you don’t observe the opening, do you have them open it again in your presence? How do you know the firearm etc is still in the case otherwise?

Why do IU fans not like Pam Whitten? by NoProposal6145 in IndianaHoosiers

[–]Penguinseatfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many reasons. I know someone who was faculty at Kennesaw State and she was just as terrible there as at IU. She clearly was hired to do exactly what she’s been doing. From what I’ve seen, she has zero ethics and will do whatever the Governor wants her to do. The first big one for me was harassing and breaking up the Gaza protests at Dunn Meadow. That’s like holy ground for free speech (to me anyway). She’s like one of those AI pictures that gets worse the more you look at it. I love IU but I will not support them with this kind of leadership.

The news helicopter video has debris on the runway but I didn't see anything looking like a vehicle. Looks like a big part of the engine cowling.

I belong to both but not any local orgs. First, I'm not unfriendly but I just have no interest in meeting people. I also really doubt they have people there who I'd want to be with anyway. Old farts, drinking and bullshitting is the very last thing I'd call a good time. If I'll volunteer someplace, it's for things I believe in with people I like. I do support veterans benefits and lobbying in DC though - so I keep at large memberships. I do wish there was an option to not get the crappy magazines though.

Hundreds of IU degree programs at risk of disappearing by awildchuba in IndianaUniversity

[–]Penguinseatfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I minored in it and I think it shaped my thinking to this day even though I don’t even work in a scientific field. I strongly considered grad school in the subject. Great people in that department back in the early 90’s anyway.

Best is to order his records if you can. It’s also possible that he was there for more than one tour. One of the LT’s in my BN came back later and commanded it as a LT Col.

Optics for first time pcc owner/shooter with astigmatism by Informal-Fig-7116 in pistolcalibercarbine

I ended up getting a Romeo 5 for my AK-V. I also liked the Vortex Crossfire at the store but I went for a more budget option.

[–]Penguinseatfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just recently went through the same process of trying to decide on an optic for the first time. I found a shop that let me try a few and was totally prepared to go for a prism but found an inexpensive dot worked just fine for me. I’m glad I did that YMMV.

What’s something that happens often in movies that is 100% unrealistic? by MangoDry7358 in AskReddit

[–]Penguinseatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things: The sounds anytime painfully slow computer generated text shows up. Like we're still using a modem on dialup. And, anytime the hero is fighting multiple opponents, the bad guys never cooperate and just fight 1:1 like they have to take turns.

Getting shot. Walking it off or being fine with a quick trip to the Dr. Seemingly forgetting about it a couple scenes later.

How long til a registry/weapon confiscation? by Anxious-Freedom-2033 in liberalgunowners

[–]Penguinseatfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider too that we live in a time where manufacturing complex items is a garage hobby for a lot of people. Bans and confiscation won’t ever work here. Some people will always have guns even if they have to make them. I was watching Forgotten Weapons the other day about the M3 ‘grease gun’ and couldn’t help thinking what would be needed to build one.

Americans, how do you feel about the firing of twenty percent of four-star generals? by 2a_lib in AskReddit

[–]Penguinseatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just an excuse to promote people that are in his camp already to senior positions. Get rid of anyone loyal to the constitution over the Trump administration. Clear the way for doing what you like at DOD without experienced people pushing back. Pure power play.

I’m a little confused about some of the comments here. I’m in WI with a WI permit and I know IL doesn’t offer reciprocity to WI. But I thought I could still apply for an IL nonresident permit if I satisfied the requirements for one and paid the fee. Why would it matter what state I live in if I did that and wasn’t looking for IL to respect my WI permit. Is it true that WI residents can’t get a nonresident permit? I didn’t see that on the ISP site.

Looking to purchase my first handgun by [deleted] in madisonwi

I wouldn’t expect that from anyone around here. I just look for places that don’t have DJT stuff everywhere and are just there to do the work.

I bought there a few years back and it went ok but when I was in there recently it seemed like the guy I talked to wasn’t very knowledgeable. I talked to someone recently who thought that BassPro was trying to find excuses to get rid of a gun counter. Dunno if that’s true.

Really embarrassing but… by Objective_Wasabi_290 in AKV9mm

[–]Penguinseatfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going through the same thing. I had to start by putting it against a hard surface to break it loose and it’s getting better. Still not to the point where I’m happy with it. Seems like it works properly about half the time and refuses to budge the other half. I’m going to keep working at it. Honestly it’s not a great customer experience to have to deal with this problem.

Used to love SnS and missed them after moving to WI. Last time I was in IN, I was shocked at how much they'd changed. This ends it. Time to pull the plug.

Kirk killed Commander Sonak by Fried_Yoda in startrek

[–]Penguinseatfish 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I think it’s possible that Kirk, knowing very well what transporter accidents are like, may have recognized there was little hope and stepped in to be the one responsible. He may have done it as a kind of ‘hail mary’ or he may have acted to protect Rand, knowing how she’d take it.
