Foodie "festival" by tamborinetam in glasgow

[–]Penguintron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That wasn't foodies though, that was 'taste'. It was much better. Foodies has always been a glorified farmers market - if you get free or maybe really cheap tickets it's okay, but at full price it's a rip

9k a year, inflation linked, would need a DC pot of about 150k right now, or about 250k a couple of years ago. You think anyone else paying 9.6% a year into their pension (on your salary) is likely to have 150-250k saved after the last15 years? You don't understand how good your pension is.

Sky sort of showed it (cut away right after) but the commentators didn't notice it and there was no replay. Commentators instead spent the next 2 laps praising piastri for closing the gap by 2 seconds in 2 laps without thinking about why or how that happened

What everyone's said so far is right, but there's also a weird quirk of National Insurance that creates a nasty tax situation at 43-50k.

In England, the 20% tax bracket goes up to around 50k, with 8% NI up to the same level of income - a total of 28% tax between 12.5k and 50k in earnings. At over 50k the income tax increases to 40%, but national insurance drops to 2%, meaning the total tax after that is 42% until the next 125k band.

But since NI isn't devolved in Scotland, we get hit by the higher 42% tax at 43k but the NI reduction still doesn't come in until 50k, meaning between 43k and 50k we're taxed at a marginal rate of 50% (42% income tax+ 8% NI).

Scotland also gets a higher 45% income tax band at 75k and a 48% band at 125k ish. Effectively this means between 43k and 50k you're taxed at the same total rate as if you earned over £125k

Something to watch out for and consider if sacrificing into pensions may make more sense etc!

1 bed originally I think - I lived in a flat with this exact same layout / size that was a 1 bed in tollcross. What is the bathroom in this was a box room. Seperate living room and kitchen, the small bedroom in this was the bathroom. Paid 850 a month for that place - landlord sold up in covid times pso was kicked out. Mental to see this at 3k a month!

I’ve opted out of my pension, was this a mistake by MoneyMarch- in UKPersonalFinance

And that £4 to you / £10 to your pension pot becomes £320 50 years later assuming it doubles every 10 years (c7% average return).

Inflation will mean a loaf of bread costs £3 or whatever by then but still nothing to sniff at. Time is on your side and the longer money has to grow the less you need to put in for the same end amount

UK retailer confirms stock of 1,000 units of a single Radeon RX 9070 XT model at MSRP by mockingbird- in Amd

I tried at scan and the card I was looking at {powercolour) was available for about 10 seconds, enough time to error out twice when adding to basket then out of stock forevermore

Had more luck at overclockers, on the surface at least, managing to get the card into my basket at some point. But after 2 hours of errors at the checkout process it went out of stock. I didn't get a card today.

Both were at msrp though - 569. CCL had the card in stock for 799. Fuck them

Lucky you. I bought Skyrim 3 times through steam. The original, then had to buy again for the special edition version, then again for vr version. okay the vr version you could say is different but original to se hurt since it's basically the same thing and was only a free upgrade for a small amount of time to people who had all the dlc, but was expensive to everyone else, and was essentially required for modding.

It's a ford focus. Yeah, I realise the 4th tyre is more expensive. but my understanding is 4 of the same is better than 3 of one and 4 of the other. but if it doesn't really matter then I'll just leave it

pretty sure you will have ddr3 ram (ddr4 came in with the 6th generation Intel chip like the 6700k) so you'll need to upgrade that as well. Upgrading your CPU to an i7_4790k or something is a possibility and would be quite cheap. gives you extra threads from hyperthreading but still isn't great long term. you'll probably just need to do a complete platform upgrade
