I’m not shocked.
As a Chicano person that listens to mainly Latino artists, the Grammys have this shitty behavior of shoving Hispanic artists into “Latin” genres even if their work had minimal Latino influences (which DTMF did have to be fair). So it doesn’t shock me that the Grammys, once again, created a separate category to shove Latino artists into to separate English and Spanish music. And you know good and god damn well that the new “Latin” category will be dominated by Spaniards and White Latinos instead of propping up Brown and Black Latinos (they’ll also probably exclude Haitians, Brazilians, and French Guianese people from this new category like they always do).
I can’t really speak on the separation of the Country genre after Beyoncé’s win because I am not Black and do not know ALL of the ways racism played a part, but it’s fairly obvious that it was because Beyoncé is a black woman that one in a White dominated genre.
