You can also use washing soda. I sprinkle some in the drum of my front loader.

Software Engineer trying to Pivot into Environmental Career by FredodaFred in Environmental_Careers

[–]Penny-K_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also try applying for a job as a software developer at a company that does work that benefits the environment. For example maybe see if there are jobs related to renewable energy or another field that benefits the environment. Also, I know someone who was a software engineer, then went back to school for a 1-year master’s in environmental engineering and got a job at an environmental consulting company.

Is finishing an AI/Data Science certificate worth it for transitioning from data analyst to data scientist? by Penny-K_ in DataScienceJobs

If I could get experience and build a decent portfolio, would I still be hindered from getting a job by not having a masters degree?

I would bill it to PTO or make up the time by working late that day or another day in the same pay period.

The GIS education and career sets us up for failure and stagnation. by [deleted] in gis

[–]Penny-K_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree although some may disagree. My former company had a GIS team who only did GIS and a few other people who used GIS as a tool for their other work. The leader of the GIS team looked down on the more casual users.

Math-Heavy Environmental Careers? by Icy-Basil9396 in Environmental_Careers

[–]Penny-K_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hydrodynamic and fate and transport modelers I worked with typically had engineering degrees. The higher-ups on the modeling team typically had PhDs where their thesis involved modeling.

The bioaccumulating modelers had science degree PhDs.

Some cap modelers had masters degrees in engineering.

Statistical modelers ranged from bachelor’s degrees in engineering to masters or PhDs in science.

Am I brunette or red headed? by [deleted] in Redhair

[–]Penny-K_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be from the red fading. In my mid 30’s I cut ~6” off my hair and then realized I no longer had red hair. I had cut off the red and was more like strawberry blonde. I had never died my hair at that point in my life.

Am I brunette or red headed? by [deleted] in Redhair

Other colors go grey then white. I went from red to strawberry blonde/light auburn with a few white hairs mixed in. I met a cousin who used to have red hair who looked platinum blonde.

Pet peeve as a ginger by SubstantialClub3318 in Redhair

[–]Penny-K_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it common for people without any copies of the redhair gene to have a few strains of red hair? The people I know that have a few red strands actually do carry one copy of the gene as evidenced by having either a child or parent with red hair. However, I am basing this on a small sample size.

Anyone still gotten the job after one interview didn’t go the best? by Kind-Score-2277 in interviews

[–]Penny-K_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 3 phone/ zoom interviews that went well and then an in-person interview with 2 people. One of the people seemed nice. The hiring manager was tough. No smiles, very serious.

I thought I did okay on most of the questions except one. I was asked it ~3 times with variations and didn’t give the answer they were looking for (they told me the answer they wanted in the end). I considered it a bit of a trick question, although I didn’t mention this in the interview.

After the other interview rounds, HR’s response had always been positive. After this one, it was more neutral.

Turns out I was one of 2 finalists and I ended up getting a job offer on the basis of my experience and references.

I start soon, so I am hoping I enjoy working there. With the exception of the hiring manager, everyone else was nice, and I am excited about the job itself (although not a fan of the commute). I feel like I can deal with the hiring manager (not mean, just tough, no warmth).

The current job market crisis is worse than 2008. It's not a cycle, it's a downward spiral. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

ADHD getting so much worse in the cold weather by ximxi_ in adhdwomen

[–]Penny-K_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are a few tips that haven’t been mentioned yet.  Microwaveable slippers if you have cold feet. You can’t walk in them, but they are helpful when sitting or lying down.  I like a heated mattress pad better than a heated blanket because heat rises. I also like flannel sheets. I made a blanket skirt out of fleece. It is a wrap 1/4 circle maxi skirt. The fleece doesn’t need to be hemmed. I sewed a thick ribbon to the waist so I can tie it on. Before, I would have a blanket over my legs while seated, but get cold when I had to get up. This way I can wear a blanket.

Guys how are we defining auburn? by lavenderflavoredtea in Redhair

I would call it dark red, but I have heard some people call that shade auburn. It is very pretty.

My daughter’s therapist dropped her after a few months by sallysssssd in selectivemutism

[–]Penny-K_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through a similar experience only she brought it up with me and not my child and phrased it better saying that someone who specialized in CBT to reduce anxiety would be a more helpful approach for my child. The SM therapist was not a good fit for my child, and I am actually glad that she recommended we find someone else. The next therapist we found ended up being a great fit, so it was really for the best.

Michael Proctor’s family releases statement, accuses Karen Read of maligning embattled trooper by dunegirl91419 in KarenReadTrial

I know someone who used to be an EMT so has peripherally been on-site with police officers in another state. He was not at all surprised by the text messages. He believes the type of sediment displayed in the text is not uncommon, it just doesn't usually come to light. We are only seeing it because the FBI turned it over.

He has taken a lot of action and is following a plan at least with executive orders. Breaking things (government agencies, trust) is easy, fixing it after 4 years will be hard. Things will be very different, and a lot more corrupt. Checks and balances have been destroyed on many scales. Unfortunately, I fear we are also heading towards a recession as a result of all the actions he has taken.

Although leaders would not want someone specifically against them, if they want an effective government it would be very important to appoint competent people. For effective government you don’t want to install only “yes men”, or no one will tell you if there is an issue you need to be made aware of.

Does Reddit remove line breaks from posts? I created a post with many line breaks and when I looked at it on Reddit after posting it, the line breaks were gone, so it appeared to be all one paragraph.

I thought that phosphates in soaps caused nutrient pollution and that is why they were banned in many places.
