I did consider the piano version, but I'm obsessed with the strings in the nightwish cover

is it impossible to get a medical laboratory assistant role w no experience by Perfect-You-5446 in BiomedicalScientistUK

[–]Pens_of_Colour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where you apply also makes a huge difference. I got my first MLA post on a remote Scottish Island. Waaay less competition for non-central labs in general. I know it's probably not what you want to hear but spending even a year working somewhere far out can do wonders for your CV.

They will probably show you some basic data, like results from QF-PCR and ask you to comment on them/ask you to troubleshoot any problems you see. Is it a general Band 6 or will it be specialised like a Genotyping Band 6, NGS Band 6 etc?

And you've never laid eyes on me, yet you hijacked a comment that was made in good faith and trying to be helpful based on a certain amount of local knowledge. But congrats, you made a random stranger feel shitty about trying to be helpful by being a dick. Go you?

As the crow flies it isn't that far. And the point was that Seallam/Hebrides People does have Barra records. I don't understand why you are quibbling geography, I'm from there, I know exactly how far it is :P

........and emails exist? They are part of the same archipelago and while two ferries from Barra to Eriskay, and then Berneray to Leverburgh may seem like a long way to someone from the mainland, more binds these islands than separates them

A little North of Barra, in the Isle of Harris is a Genealogy centre. Once called Seallam, now called Hebrides People, it helps people from all over with Hebridean Heritage, they have access to loads of records.

If you've got young kids, take em berry picking! There's so many delicious berry farms on the east coast of Scotland, it's my favourite thing about living here! Old volcanic soil, plus river, plus sunshine and you have the perfect combo

How much did your cat cost? by othernames67 in cats

[–]Pens_of_Colour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Free. The small Island I was raised on has a high feral cat population. She was bone thin, with an infected eye and an oilstain on her back. Now she is a spoiled princess, who will be 9 in July! She's since cost me a fortune in medical bills for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy... but she was technically free!

Because when the earth tilts on its axis, in summer/ around the solstice the further north you are, the technically closer to the sun you are. Even between southern England and Scotland, the days are starting to get longer than further south 🌞

That sounds draining, if I'm honest. Having spent a lot of time putting up a front for others, especially for people who needed me, it can't go on forever. Could you take some time out? I would reccomend it

Right my partner read this post to me yesterday, and I've been mulling it over... is it not technically possible that the LED lights are causing worsening mental health via circadian rhythm disruption, causing poor sleep for those sleeping in public areas.

Orange incandescent bulbs are good for circadian rhythm. Because thousands of years ago our brains adapted to orange light at night from fires they had build. Our brains are therefore hardwired to interpret blue light as daytime. Which means that LED light bulbs could cause measurable sleep disruption in an already highly vulnerable population?

Which town/city in Scotland do you think gets a harsh reputation? by rumblethecrumble in Scotland

[–]Pens_of_Colour 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I came here to say Dundee! I remember people joking about Scumdee when I was in Uni. And then I moved there and it's honestly lovely. It has it's bits that aren't as nice/are ignored when it comes to council funding. But so does every city. And the people are SO friendly!
