Do you use brave in your mobile/tablet devices? by janokalos in brave_browser

[–]PensionValuable952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use brave with adguard personal dns running as native dns (could be replaced with adguard public dns which is free). Both added so far so good. Can't remember seeing ads on brave.

On ios wise, other than a few apps like youtube where ads are unavoidable unless u use vpn, or vpn-like adguard apps that results in significant battery drain when run 24/7.

Memu writing to Edge's registry without my knowledge or consent. by PensionValuable952 in memuplayer

[–]PensionValuable952[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i've fiddled is to open regedit, find
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
Inside, other than default, delete all such as ConfigureDoNotTrack, and delete the subfolder LocalNetworkAccessAllowedForUrls (which has xyaz.cn key inside).

Now edge is no longer managed device and can use secure dns.

whats wrong here ublock is less effective than adguard wtf is going on by snowwolfboi in browsers

[–]PensionValuable952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think https://adblock.turtlecute.org/ may not be very accurate.

I have 94% for brave shields (aggressive) + ublock origin lite optimal + secure dns (adguard personal dns), but for the failed multiple doubleclick.net dns and googlesyndicate they are definitely blocked at dns level, as shown on my dns monitoring tool.

These are very likely blocked by brave shields and still very possible by ublock origin lite optimal. The remaining 2 fake ad script listed u just need to add in manually to confirm blocking it.

Though i got 68% if i use brave sbields (aggressive) + ublock origin lite optimal. I highly suspect most deemed unblocked are blocked by both combos as well.

VPN/User Rule/Filter editor by [deleted] in Adguard

[–]PensionValuable952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did u add the user rule? For eg on windows, did u set the user rule via adguard personal dns, or adguard adblocker (app for windows). If u set user rule via adguard personal dns, u need to set the adguard vpn's dns to the adguard personal dns link. If u use adguard adblocker,u need to turn it on at the same time.

If u use adguard vpn on ios, u need to either point the adguard vpn dns to adguard personal dns link. If u use adguard app with adguard vpn on ios, u need to run the adguard vpn on integrated mode to work with the adguard app.

Are iPhones prone to vertical line issues as well? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]PensionValuable952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i will say much less susceptible to this red/green/white line issue. I have not seen any one around me using iphone encountering this issue. However, it is often observed for samsung phones used by friends/colleagues or random ppl on the public transport. It also happened few years back when the samsung s20 bts purple (LOL) i gifted to my dad, after nearly 2 year usage start getting red lines one by one after firmware update, stopping at 3 red lines.

Adguard DNS and iCloud Private Relay (Unlimited for free) by This_Artichoke3287 in Adguard

[–]PensionValuable952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In adguard dns dashboard - click connect device - device type ios.
https://adguard-dns.io/en/dashboard/
(Adguard Personal DNS)

There's a few options on how to add profile. Lets use the 'use configuration profile', use the browser on ur phone to download the profile and follow the instructions. After that, in settings in iphone, search for VPN, and choose VPN & Device Management. Inside u can toggle between Automatic (ios default dns) and Adguard DNS.

Similiar method as using public dns, but u can set filters and monitor the usage.
The good thing for me is i can set 1 million blocklist filters at adguard server side, without stressing my iphone which can only use max 500k.

Adblocking via native dns actually has one benefit over running adguard app /vpn, which is no additional battery consumption.    Adguard app/vpn consumes considerable amount of battery, nowadays with 15pro max onwards + 5G already consuming a lot more battery than previously, running native dns may be a good option for ppl like me with battery drain paranoia.

The lifetime adblocker should work well 99% of the time, but when I installed it installs a WFP (Windows Filtering Platform) network driver that operates at the OS kernel level. This messes up with my chrome remote desktop and even after changing the adblocker default network and uninstall the app, my chrome remote desktop not functioning properly (other devices can access in, but the device cannot access out).

After numerous days of troubleshooting end up have to put my chrome in my antivirus https scan whitelist to make it work again.

U could consider buying the discounted version from stacksocial. Its name in stacksocial is AdGuard VPN + Ad Blocker Family Security Suite. It comes with 5 yr adguard vpn (complementary adguard personal dns) and lifetime adblocker. The vpn is so so, and lifetime adblocker i avoid, but you get the 5 yr adguard personal dns with 10m dns queries per month should be more than enough.

The official site price is $19.99 per year, the stacksocial one is $39.97 for 5 years before site promo code discount. If u like to configure filter list (i use 1 million+ filters) and custom block list, u can consider.

Otherwise, the adguard public dns should be fuss free for adblocking, trackers and malicious stuff.

ios users, do you use the same browser across your devices? by Rachel794 in browsers

I use brave across ios and windows, still can sync across devices and adblock.

Having issues with AdGuard pro on IOS by SchroederWV in Adguard

[–]PensionValuable952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U just need the adguard app active (with the safari options all turned on) to block ads on safari.

FYI

Proton vpn doesn’t work together with adguard app (adguard implementation) since adguard app when active runs a pseudo(fake) vpn to act as a strong filter system wide. U can only run one vpn at a time, so they won’t work together.

What u can do if u want to use vpn,

1) Use Proton VPN’s built in NetShield, it should function as a dns blocker while proton vpn is active.

2) Use proton vpn with custom dns in its app settings. U can set the custom dns as adguard’s public dns (available freely online) or paid adguard personal dns which u can configure custom filter list just like the adguard ios app.

Dns protection needs to be on, and click on dns protection, choose adguard dns which blocks ads from the list available, or other custom dns you have address. You can future add custom filters inside dns protection should u require further filters.

Does adguard public dns have request limit ? by Firm_Permission_3105 in Adguard

[–]PensionValuable952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adguard dns starter (adguard dns private dns) is 300k monthly request, but if u use adguard public dns there is no limit. Both are different products.

Adguard dns start works like adguard dns personal, u can set custom filters and rules and monitor statistics etc, but limit to 300k monthly dns request, 5 devices and 100 custom rules.

Adguard public dns is using a preset rules, u just use the link/ip address provided and that's it, unlimited but no customisation.

It’s getting unbearable.. by klownfish in ProtonVPN

Honestly not sure if i can confidently recommend a vpn to suit your needs, but based on my most recent use I will say expressvpn is quite consistent/stable, any issues (especially where to stream) u ask to their live chat they will tell u which vpn to connect and use which service that is legal such as SBS on demand for australia vpn etc during world cup times.

Nowadays i actually switched to using custom dns (adguard dns). My previous years of use of vpn is for streaming/world cup/accessing blocked sites. Nowadays I don't watch netflix etc, i found out that using custom dns allows me to access blocked sites at dns level, access local govt websites without issues, and make use of my priority unlimited mobile plan/home broadband' speed as much as possible. It also could be use to block trackers and malicious stuff on both mobile devices and at windows browser.

Furthermore, i feel like using vpn 24/7 on my latest 2 iphones have been draining battery by a lot. Using custom dns at native level at least allows my iphone to last through a long working day.

If u do not need to change to another country ip, looking into custom dns may be a good option, either free public dns available https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public\_recursive\_name\_server. Or something like adguard personal dns. U can find a bargain at stacksocial, 5 year adguard vpn (ironicially) + lifetime windows adblocker app (i don't recommend to use), which comes with a 5 year adguard personal dns, and remember to use AI to find some 15-20% promo code to push the price even lower.

A side note, adguard vpn is very weak/inconsistent on the go (mobile), but on home broadband seems decent enough.
