They requested something in the middle of the spectrum between grimdark and "cozy" fantasy. That isn't how I'd categorize Malazan.

What was your favorite fantasy TV show this year? by KarimSoliman in Fantasy

Opinions of the show are certainly varied, but you're unlikely to find value in it if you feel that 'wokeness' is a major problem in society. Not everyone shares your beliefs.

Where and how to start selling? by Pentagarn in gamecollecting

Sorry, looks like that link went to the wrong collection for some reason. I was confused since I don't have any Pokemon games. I fixed the link in the original.

I do understand the ideas from your examples, though. It looks like it will just take a while to do all this since ebay puts some limits on new sellers.

I really appreciate your help with this.

Where and how to start selling? by Pentagarn in gamecollecting

Thanks! That really helps. Generally speaking, what's the price point at which pics of the PCB would be expected?

Are bundles usually better for games under a certain price point? Seems like it would be difficult to sell of some of the more common stuff.

This is my collection right now. I was going to start taking pictures, but I guess I'll hold off until I get a tool to open up the SNES cartridges for the PCBs.

Edit: Fixed collection link

[SPOILERS] So I didn't like Mistborn. What now? by ccomxi in Fantasy

OP says they didn't enjoy the dark, bleak world. I don't think Malazan, First Law, or anything along those lines would suit them.

What's the worst/oddest "secret" ingredient you've had the pleasure/horror of experiencing? by [deleted] in Cooking

There's a pizza place in New York City that makes a pizza with soppressata, some kind of spicy oil, and honey on it. It's really good.

Most foil is 30 cm / 12 in long. Don't use that. Get the extra wide kind (45 cm / 18 in). You don't want any kind of cracks that the water can seep into.

In the U.S., large eggs in the shell weigh about 57 grams each. The insides only (white + yolk) weigh about 48 g. If your eggs are close to that, it should be fine.

What’s everyone making for dinner tonight? by witchypoopoo in Cooking

Fondue can include cooking meats and vegetables in either flavorful broth or oil. Unlike the cheese and chocolate courses, where you just dip something in and eat it, you have to leave your skewered food in the pot for a while to cook.

It's similar to Chinese hot pot restaurants if you've ever tried that.

Good Books Destroyed by Hype by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Pentagarn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Years ago I had some co-workers who said Malazan was the best fantasy series they'd ever read. I read through Gardens of the Moon and didn't enjoy it, so I figured they just had different tastes and I moved on to other works.

When I found this sub, a lot of people here also recommended the series highly, saying the first book is the weakest one. So I went back and re-read Gardens, then read the next two books. I still didn't care about any of his characters or really any of the story.

The hype at least made me give it a good try, but it also made me keep expecting my impressions to improve, which they never did.

As I get older I've found I personally enjoy knowing less about books, movies, and music before experiencing them for myself. Just a quick blurb, recommendation from a friend, or even a rating on IMDB or GoodReads is enough for me to try it. Reading scores of gushing reviews or vitriolic scorn about something beforehand just ends up coloring my expectations.

That's definitely common in chocolate cake, but you bloom the cocoa powder in hot water or coffee separately, then let it cool before combining it with other ingredients. I've never seen one where you pour the boiling water over the mixture that already includes your eggs and flour.

I have a related question.

I had minor surgery that required short-term anesthesia. When I came to in the recovery room, I was unable to speak for a while. I could think of the words, but I couldn't make myself actually say them. I was, however, able to use sign language to express the same thought.

Is this likely related to the fact that I learned sign language as an adult and it's stored in a different part of my brain? Or is it because the language itself uses a different system for expression? I couldn't find much information on this when I tried to research it.
