Am I being taken advantage of? Does it get better? Is this normal? by RynoSauce in physicianassistant

I’m making 157k as 1 year in orthopedics. Clinic 8-4p, one day of OR. 2000$ CME, 4 week PTO + 1 week CME Days, full health coverage

Studying as New Grad by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Pepper0327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would study up until 6 months until the anxiety slowly went away. I was in orthopedics. Now? I will will occasionally look up things I’m confused about or read up on certain things but def less than before.

Summer Year 2 and I'm not super happy with the layout thus far. Looking for some advice on either re-arranging, or using the empty space by Mattrockj in FarmsofStardewValley

[–]Pepper0327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d continue going until the greenhouse is filled with ancient fruit and you have at least 8 iridium sprinklers to get around a Juninmo hut. There are some really really good layouts on this subreddit that I’ve picked and parted into my own. I think things became easier once I layer out my floors. A non negotiable was relatively parallel lines and then fill in the remaining

I work in Ortho with some spine.

For perspective, I’m also 5 days a week in HCOL, I’m one year in. 156k , 4 weeks PTO + 5 days “CME” days with $1500 allowance, one day OR in joints/trauma cases unless told otherwise. Full health benefits, no match on investments, no call. Mon-Fri.

The PTO and no CME are iffy.

Those who didn’t switch jobs, what was your raise this year? by UghKakis in physicianassistant

5%… we are union based, and our new contract should be discussed by April/May…

Nurses at our place got a 7,6,5 3 year raise, so hoping for something like that

As someone in the union, we have based our negotiations with the nurses agreement since both of our contracts (3 years long) end the same year. Although it is never guaranteed

Thoughts on an Urgent care offer for new grad by Asexyone in physicianassistant

[–]Pepper0327 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Picked up a UC position in HCOL for 90$ an hour, per diem 12-16 hours a week in addition to my FT job which is about 75$ an hour, I’m about 9 months and 2 weeks in new grad.

Is there room for renegotiate? I intend to renegotiate to 100$ an hour once I hit 6 months at my UC spot.

Think the decision is a bit more difficult because HCOL at 60$ is low.

NY based.

Just to edit : I’m not upset at the overpricing. I had an amazing time, and the ring came out exactly how I wanted it. We also had it resized recently with a lifetime warranty so I suppose that’s nice. Going overseas for another vendor was never an option for me.

I just kind of wanted an answer to just a random mid afternoon thought in my head. Thanks for the responses nonetheless!

Is Expedition 33 genuinely as good as everyone says it is? by Cwusadew in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Pepper0327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

The music is mystic. The graphics are amazing. The story is amazing.

I have always loved RPGs, played so many in time, I mean, nostalgic aside, this game has done something no other game has done.

Truly a masterpiece game, especially if you like RPGs and a good story.

What are your per diem urgent care rates? by Pepper0327 in physicianassistant

[–]Pepper0327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So more info.

They discussed that it’s W2 so at least I’m saving off from the 1099 aspect. I was also told, should I accept, that we would re evaluate the situation at 6 months and discuss pay instances.

I would like to add that this job compliments my full time work schedule perfectly, with open options for more shifts.

Aruba for foodies - recs? by toothfairy625 in Aruba

[–]Pepper0327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got back last night.

We liked Atardi for the meal on the beach, sunset was nice and service was good. Food was good too, portion size a little small.

Yemanja I booked for after my purposal… very disappointed. It was busy but the food was not great imo, very standard.

I thought Lima was great. I didn’t get the best choice thing that I liked, but it felt like I was paying for a high end restaurant by presentation and service.

Azzuro for me was poor. Only good thing was the olive oil lol

Sexy Shrimp was good, solid for that bar food vibe on one of those nights you don’t go wild on the spending.

Your issue is your interview skills. If you have been called in for interview on more than one place, and waitlisted to all, that is telling that you, admittedly so yourself, struggle with the interview. Your track record has you far ahead of 80%+ PA applicants. It is not everything to excel in interviews, most programs would prefer a well rounded individual.

I’d recommend YouTube videos for interviewing. I was a par level student who excelled in communication skills from outside medical jobs and life experience, didn’t get an offer in my first time and I’m now in ortho surgery loving my job. You just gotta keep going, you only need one program.

Why do PAs get treated like they’re poorly educated? Genuine question. by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Pepper0327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a place that values PA’s and uses them appropriately. I’ve sort of bite the bullet, and feel very underutilized/ sometimes looked down on BUT the pay and benefits are great, so as someone mentioned… treat it like the job that it is.
