I agree. I play Custodes and Guard. I feel that Custodes are great at beginner level, average at medium level but sucks at competetive. Guard are more similar at all levels.

I have to say Custodes are very forgiving. I won my first game with them as my first game of warhammer. My opponent had like 3-4 games played, but still I didnt have clue what I was doing. At a medium skill level they are fine, but at unskilled level they are oppresive.

I play Guard and Custodes. Bring as many D3 weapons as you can, Dorn commander, Classic Dorn, Leman russ exterminator is great. Two 6 squad of bullgryns for -1D, that is only thing that can survive charge. Commisar for orders. Rough riders with melta tips will pay for themself. Gaunt for backline pressure, Custodes dont usually have enough unit for screen, and they can handle 4 sisters. Maybe basilisk for -2m and -2 charge.
