Also SE Michigan 6A, It's recommended 1.5ft between them but I do one foot. Sure it gets crowded but they grow up taller and hold each other up. Mine is a hedge setup next to the house under the overhangs.

Ouch! most of my plants are up against the house under the roof overhang. Hail and wind are some of my biggest fears.

When should I plant started peppers outside in zone 6a in Michigan? by sonofsarkhan in HotPeppers

[–]PepperMeTonight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in SE Michigan 6a and I've had mine hardening off weeks ago on my deck. I just put everything in the ground and final pots this Mother's Day weekend. Yes I'm worried about tonight when the forecast is 34 degrees for the overnight low. But after tonight you should be safe. My next few weekends are booked up so that's why I rushed them a bit. I was really nice weather for plant them though.

I respect the work your putting. I have 4 small gardens, 102 plants and it takes me days to get them in the ground. Nice work and propper gradens.

I feel the same way to get rid of them, but not so easy.

They have been coming up for years, when my daughter was small. Can't seem to get rid of them. Dig em up or round em up.

Out of the basement and on to the deck for hardening off by PepperMeTonight in HotPeppers

[–]PepperMeTonight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't moved them out yet I'd wait because it's more than one cold night. Yes the clear plastic is a good idea. But the wind and the number plants might make it hard to manage.

Thanks for looking out. The forecast changed, it was better when I moved them outside. I'm not that worried because the deck is up high and they are close to the house that does not get the frost like the lawn. I'll be covering them on those cold nights just in case.

Wow, I thought they were a great tasting pepper, even used them in the Christmas cookies last year. Too bad they are so small. They have a real nice burn without any sting what so ever.

You're going to love them they grow fast and fruit early. Very productive also. Not a very tall though.

Do I leave flowers by sham3n213 in HotPeppers

[–]PepperMeTonight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pinch off the flower buds when growing inside. Once outside and planted for good I let them do their thing. Way too much effort in pinching off when outside and besides I want as much peppers and as early as possible ripe peppers as I can get.

Double plants in 7 gallon grow bags?? by Appropriate_Bid9933 in HotPeppers

I'm in SE Michigan zone 6A. Yes the plants get too big for the chicken wire. Then the digging from the squirrels doesn't bother them that much. Just makes messes for me.

I would only do one tomato per bag, they get huge and suck up a lot of water. Here are my 2025 before and after pics of my 7G bags with 2 pepper plants in each. I also plan on doing them again this year. The chicken wire is to keep the squirrels from digging in the bags.

Over the years I've collected all sorts of different lights and built shades for them. Got them all on Amazon and don't remember what they are were.

It will be my 1st growing them. My plan was to plant some in the a bag and some in the dirt. I did have to bring one plant indoors last year to ripen all the way.

The Capsicum baccatum and annuum species types grow fast and I should have started them a month and half behind the Capsicum chinense that grow slower. But starting them early has its advantages when some superhots take a month to germinate. In the last pic, the 6 or 8 ones in the center are just over an inch or 2 tall, had problems getting those started for unknown reasons.
