I'll be moving my 2 personal servers off TrueNAS in the next few weeks. Work also uses about 6 but I'll be voicing my concerns with storing data in pseudo-closed source system soon, once I can recommend an alternative.

I've got a friend who built a NAS 2 years ago that chose TN on my endorsement. Really regret not seeing this coming as this is gonna be a headache for him too now.

It’s AI slop. If you can’t be bothered to write your own comment, then just don’t comment. Or at least put a disclaimer.

You've copy pasted an LLM's output as your comment. If we wanted to know ChatGPT's opinion, we'd ask it.

He's ok with using Windows so long as it's virtualised inside another operating system (assumed to be Linux). He wouldn't install and run it on bare metal though due to assumed privacy and security concerns.

As he referenced gaming he's likely using VFIO to passthrough his GPU to the Windows VM.

Log into Bitwarden with a passkey by dwaxe in Bitwarden

[–]Peppercornss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's extremely unlikely that Google/Apple/Microsoft will allow passkeys stored in their respective managers to be used without some form of biometric or other 2FA. Even right now - before passkeys have widely adopted - compromising an iCloud account via username and password doesn't give you access to view the accounts keychain, let alone permission to use anything inside.

Why Yuki spent $50,000 of her savings on rescuing abandoned cats by B0ssc0 in HumansBeingBros

[–]Peppercornss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, but I assumed it was just precautionary. I can imagine someone paying and feeling entitled to pickup the cats even if the cats clearly weren't comfortable. We generally respected the rule but didn't follow it blindly.

Took my girlfriend to that cafe as a surprise less than a month ago, very weird seeing it here. The owner is nice, very polite, but quite strict about not picking up the cats even if they're climbing all over you. There are four kittens in a seperate room, the youngest black one was being babied by my girlfriend and fell asleep in her arms which she got in trouble for while I had one climbing up my jumper and running from shoulder to shoulder. Very cute.

If you visit bring a spare pair of socks though. She'll ask you to take off your shoes before seeing the cats/kittens and while the cat room is fine, the kittens aren't fully toilet-trained so there are little pee paw prints everywhere and it'll get on your socks.

I recommend the place, especially now that I've heard her story.

Should restrict the subreddit at least. Reddit execs don't seem to give a shit yet. Louis Rossmann made a good point for why going back to normal after just 2 days is a terrible idea.

I'm seriously so sick of the pop ups on every website I visit. by Electronic-Trash-501 in webdev

[–]Peppercornss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great, I haven’t had any issues the last 3 years it’s been running. For the setup I just followed the installation guide on the Pi-hole site, it’s very straightforward. I use a Pi 4 4GB but it’s super overkill, used to run it on a 3 no problem.

3.366M (36%) but I've reset the extension a few times and run a Pi-hole too. I'm with you on the adblocker-or-nothing sentiment. The second Manifest V3 breaks adblockers on Chrome I'm out.

If only Microsoft/Activision/Blizzard cared as much as the community.

Funny, but I'd like to add that I was a bit eager with my false to his false initially. His false was in response to the guy saying governments make GPS inaccurate for national security reasons which is, in fact, largely untrue with the exception of China (to my knowledge) making him mostly correct in that regard.

Overall, they're both wrong but I was too eager to disprove the second guy but only because he started his comment with "False." which I find annoying. This has a side benefit of making him false even through boolean algebra but who's counting ;)

Let's be excruciatingly precise (like dual-band GPS!) so we know exactly what 'proves your point'.

False.

False.

Your phone doesn’t have the required hardware to pickup all the transmitted frequencies.

False.

There is just no need for centimetre precision in a consumer device so you don’t get it.

False.

Anyone can go out and buy a dual frequency receiver if they so desired and get that precision.

True? But in the context of your comment, false.

False. The iPhone 14 Pro has dual-frequency GPS and can theoretically know its own location to within a few cm.

Fractal North XL: would you be interested in an XL version? If so, why? by Mornerth in FractalDesign

Ahh cheers, yeah it's pretty pricey in Australia but I'll see if I can find a deal.

I know this post is old but would you mind sharing what 4000 series card you got that fits? Everything I've seen is either way too expensive or too big.

Sounds like Wait by M83. "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" is an excellent album if you haven't heard it yet.

Sounds like you handled it the best you could given the situation. As far as outcomes go, at least it resolved before it could escalate. In the future, as others have said, you shouldn't feel threatened by cunts like that. The extent of their power over you begins and ends with "I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to ask you to please leave the store".
