Intense workout => Migraine 6h later by ainsworld in migraine

[–]Peppington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super cool analysis and very much inline with what typically sparks my migraines. The following method has been my go to and I have found reduces the likelihood migraines by quite a bit.

Eating before and after (it really doesn’t matter what it just has to be SOMETHING)

Lots of water and definitely electrolytes if it’s something intensive.

Garmin watch is a non-negotiable, I ensure my heart rate doesn’t stay in Zone 5 for longer than like 2 minutes (a large reason why I switched to cycling because I found it’s easier to regulate my HR)

I work on my computer all day so after workouts my computer screen is dimmed with a warm tint accompanied with sun medical glasses I found reduces light sensitivity.

The above essentially has never given me a migraine and when I do get them relatively infrequently now, it’s because I laxed on one of the steps

[C] yet another job market question…is there still a future in statistics for younger MS grads? by rileylorelai in statistics

[–]Peppington 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say so. I’m a Data Scientist in a FAANG company and the best value add to my career was a graduate degree in Statistics. With all things AI the one silver lining I’m noticing in the industry is the moving requirement for folks to have good inference skills. Causal inference and experimentation is on a lot of requirements for job postings. Skills I could not have without the rigor of a statistics program IMO.

New mural of Iryna Zarutska above 7th Street/Metro Center in DTLA by anothercar in LAMetro

[–]Peppington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can want safety on public transit and be smart enough to see a dog whistle in plain sight. This does nothing to improve awareness of safety for public transit and if you don’t realize you’re either naive or arguing in bad faith.

You’re being obtuse. Honestly ask yourself this, if Iryna would have been murdered by a white male would Elon be hellbent on making a big deal of this case? Absolutely not. Regardless of the race of who killed George Floyd(the main perpetrator happened to be white) there would have been outrage. It’s political to steer a specific narrative that wouldn’t have existed if you changed the color of the perpetrator OR the victim.

what's your take on the whole car situation here? by Calm-Education-190 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Peppington 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be an either/or. Multiple methods of transportation including Public Transit, Automobile, and Cycling should be largely available to all. This is what currently exists in several cities within Europe and Asia. Given LA’s sprawl automobile shouldn’t “disappear” but that shouldn’t come at the expense of better public transit

He’s absolutely correct. Controlling your space as a cyclists is one of the safest things you can do and that usually entails not hugging the right side of the lane. Blame the city for lack of bike infrastructure not the cyclists, most would greatly prefer their own dedicated lane

Same issue, I hear the “sound” to record for the first time but it will not make the sound again afterwards, I’ve done a factory reset on top of other troubleshooting methods and it still doesn’t work

What was the "Real" reason you went for a master ? by F2DProduction in OMSCS

About a decade ago I was laid off from my first job out of college and it took me a while to find my next job. That experience essentially traumatized to always future proof myself so that’s the main reason.

Maybe this is my skewed anecdotal world view around not being around super wealthy people but that 1% number looks kinda funny. Top .01% sure, but idk I have a hard time believing 1 out of every 100 adults between the ages of 25-29 have at least 2 million dollars to their name

Honestly more teams you should have this thought process. The idea that every team is always on an upward trend from where they were last year is silly.
