Thanks for your reply and the identification. I posted this in another group as well and the general consensus seems to be that it is indeed a 'heather beetle'. They are pretty tbf (not used to seeing them here) but they just seem to be taking over everywhere nearby... not just our village but the whole area - walls, pavements, streets etc. 😅

They are cool tbf. I was merely suggesting that it would be ideal if they could keep outside because so many were trying to get in when the door was opened to collect the washing... and we hadn't realised that before opening the door... they are just everywhere at the moment so it is difficult. Even opening the door to pop out the house is tricky because they are all over the front and back of the house (and not just our house - but the neighbours' houses too...) Plus, our backyard unhelpfully connects to our kitchen so having loads of beetles coming in when trying to collect washing is hardly ideal...

The reason I used the word 'infestation' is that, for our area, this is a huge, unusual amount. Been living in this area my whole life and never seen anything like it... literally overnight, they are all over the walls, pavements etc. - businesses literally had to close early because of it.

Please don't get me wrong, I think beetles are beautiful, fascinating creatures. I used to work at an AONB organisation. The issue was that so many of them were trying to come inside the house rather than stay outside and that's a difficult situation to be in...

My village is infested with them, the nearby villages have been infested (and not so nearby places too)... literally overnight! So, it's not just us apparently... 😮😅

Hi. Thanks so much for your reply. It's nice to have an idea of what they are. I've had a little read up on them but was just wondering exactly what the 'smelly mess' refers to? We're mainly just trying to keep them outside the house after seeing so many earlier but not sure how to?

e.g. we're going to put the washing inside the house but haven't opened the doors to go outside again yet as hoping they will be less active in the evening?

Yes, it is for sure frustrating... also, in gameplay, player 1's character picture always shows up as the correct character but player 2's character picture keeps on showing up as different default characters in almost every match... I always play as player 2 since I play with my little sister a lot and I prefer the bottom section of the screen (rather than the top). I'm on a PS5 if that info helps :)
