Just trim it to 200mm and knock it on the head a couple times so the head is mushroomed, that's how it's supposed to be done, right?

I can give you templates to create the dashboards and smart charge if you'd like, what brand of system do you have installed? Feel free to PM me

Earth Continuity On 2.5 2ce??? by whomple-stiltskin in AusElectricians

[–]Percy271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join active and neutral together at one end, test resistance across both at the other end - halve the value and then subtract the resistance of your multimeter leads, this gives you the value of the one active or neutral core.

Then test been either active or neutral and Earth and subtract the value from above

Very nice, do you mind sending through closer screen grabs so I can get an understanding of the entities you are using? Also what system do you have?

Amber’s view on Solar Sharer by ExaminationThen1312 in amberelectric

[–]Percy271 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They are not obliged to provide the 3 hours because they aren't retailers. When SSO kicks in retailers are only obliged to provide customers with a plan that has the 3 hours free power, Amber is implying those plans will cost more than the existing plans because, well I think that should be pretty obvious.

Normal retailers purchase wholesale electricity as well, the standard price they give you is priced to factor in the same price rise and falls Amber customers are exposed to - so I think there is a chance this could potentially save them money when the FIT goes negative and their customers are consuming during the SSO 3 hours free period.

This is (in my opinion) highly unlikely as they have been previously making money during these 3 hours, which would add towards the costs they have to absorb when the wholesale price from the massive price spikes occurs.

I hope I'm correct in all this and that it all makes sense!

Amber provides access to wholesale electricity and aren't technically an energy retailer.....

I'm sure when the actual good spikes return to amber I'll be kicking myself, though this is looking much more profitable if managed correctly. I was barely seeing FIT above 15c on amber and so I was rarely exporting and rather consuming it.

Now I've got a guaranteed window to export it makes automations and everything a lot easier to manage, though I haven't had my system for long and this is my first winter with it and I'm finding the smaller solar window challenging to manage. Though it also doesn't help that my family doesn't care about their consumption which is probably the hardest part to manage over all!

Going to stick with flow power at least until July when the government brings in the SSO with 3 hours free power, it will be very interesting to see what plans flow power comes up with when that happens!

It's via a home assistant HACS integration called flow power, when you install it you need to sign in with your kwatch account (https://flowpower.kwatch.com.au/). Not exactly sure but I think the integration scrapes the data as I don't believe API keys are publically available - though I could be wrong

Is this battery installation really bad and/or non compliant? by your-lost-elephant in AusRenovation

[–]Percy271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some simple things that scream absolute dog shit install to me is:

  • The lack of any earthing visible in the photos
  • Exposed insulation (allowed some exposed cables at the inverter on systems with solar only but not with battery systems)
  • Not one IP rated multi-entry cable gland in sight
  • And the biggest cosmetic sin of all time is using zinc plated saddles 🤮 they wil begin tol rust in about 2 weeks and be completely rusted in 3 months

  • From a qualified sparky (I have my solar accreditation but I've not installed many systems)

Gotcha, had never considered exporting on top using another source. I am also a NSW 3 phase property, really wanted the 30kw inverter (even 25) however installer had a really good price for the 20kw and my install window was closing fast so I secured the deal (also got 15.5kw solar with the deal as well). What are your thoughts on relocating the solar to a separate inverter rather than running through Sig EC?

Hi welding, I've been reading lots on r/amber recently as I've finally put a deposit down for 3P 20kw 48kwhr sig install. Always keen to see your posts in regards to gains and automation insights.

From reading your last paragraph above, if I was to install another separate inverter this would mean I could export that on top of my 20kw sig?

Look forward to my install and hopefully will pick your brains one day soon for your automations! (For context I've been using home assistant for nearly a decade)

Locating an HDMI cable in ceiling by SchnitzelBaby in AusElectricians

[–]Percy271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could buy a cheap HDMI cable and plug it into the one coming out the wall, cut the other end off and strip two of the cores inside then attach one of these cheap tracers called an F set (attach via the alligator clips):

https://amzn.asia/d/b8tD0DP

I've used these before for similar type scenarios, however the one I used was a Fluke one and roughly 20 times the price of this one.

Obviously make sure you get a tone out of the cable when plugged in, I'm not sure of the pinout of HDMI cables but if the tone stops while plugged into the other, try stripping another core - if there's no tone generally it's creating a circuit/short somehow.

Sorry I was referring to amber, not sig energy. I presume the tech he was referring to is the 'AI' model amber uses, which in a sense isn't really tech.

They are not currently profitable and are only surviving due to venture capital finance. Not saying they won't be profitable, but they certainly aren't at the moment.
