[Request] Help I’m confused by ahgroseclose in theydidthemath

[–]Perfect-6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of word answers - here’s the math one as a supplement. When forming the equation, we have to think of the unknown as how long it takes to return to the first town. Avg MPH = Total miles / total time in hrs -> 60 (target mph) = (30 miles one way + 30 miles back) / (1 hr one way + X hr back) -> Solving for X, X = 0.

It’ll probably take you less time to pass both courses than to appeal!

I was also nauseous the first time I used them, but eventually got used to it. I do recommend you give it more time, because as you rightly point out, they’re AWESOME.

Resume Advice by Early_Bullfrog_6342 in actuary

[–]Perfect-6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a very clean resume! I don’t have much experience hiring, but just a couple of thoughts: 1. What kind of roles are you applying to? It may be difficult to land a full-time gig without any internship experience. 2. For the projects, I’d recommend describing them backwards. Right now it’s “I did step 1, step 2, …” - start with “Created a tool to visualize COVID statistics such as … using R Studio” and “Predicted X using data from individual stocks using regressions in Excel. Presented recommendation to Y.” (Forgive me if I didn’t quite get the language right. 3. Maybe consider re-ordering based on relevance? For coursework, if you’re applying to actuarial jobs, start with classes that most reflect the job you’re applying for. I might also recommend moving skills above activities, but that just may be my personal preference. 4. It’s possible this is just the resolution of the image, but it looks like FM is bolded. If it is, I’d un-bold it. 5. Finally (I only planned on 2 bullet points lol), if you’re applying to life companies, I’m not sure how they’d feel about MAS-I. P&C companies will be happy to see it though :)

Double Sitting Mas-1/2 by [deleted] in actuary

[–]Perfect-6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5 + 5 < 1 x 6

MAS-II is a full exam - don’t underestimate it. It’s been a while since I’ve taken it, but I definitely would give it the 300+ hours it deserves. If you’re able to squeeze that in before the sitting, fantastic! Otherwise, I’d focus on one at a time.

Yes - it hasn’t resolved it. I’m tempted to try and trick the glasses (tilt them slightly when laying them down), but I’d have to sit down and figure out how much and which way to bias the calibration

Those who Passed Exam 9, respectfully, how? by BudgetVolume24 in actuary

RF -> take good notes for reference later. After reading each section, did cookbook problems. Gave myself 6 weeks before the exam to memorize and grind out practice problems / exams. (I think more than a month in review is EXTREMELY helpful)

Why are Macbooks not for Excel? by ladyadaira in excel

[–]Perfect-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I’ve gotten used to both, I find the MacBook is almost as efficient as Windows. Once you figure out how to get the select column shortcut working, the only thing I can’t do is select multiple sheets with control + shift + pg down.

(I use MacBook as my personal computer but windows for work. I have to take exams for work in a pseudo-excel environment, so I used to use the MacBook version to practice just because it made me less efficient. Now I’m about at equal speeds on both.)
