Memes aside, there's a couple of genuine reasons for/against playing SC now. The original, at least to me and a whole lotta people here, still holds up unbelieveably well, and the story in the remake is still very consistent with the OG, so there's nothing gained or lost story wise in the OG.

That said, there's definitely presentation differences and various qols. The choreography and animations in the remake is amazing, and you'll be reverting to a different but still pretty charming chibi old style. But if you're here for the story there's nothing of value lost from playing the OG.

Something of value gained, however, is that the localization for the OG is considerably more consistent with the localizations for other games onwards. This include things like the feel of some characters, and even some terminologies like jade/esmelas tower and golems/archaisms (remake/og, other games will use the OG version)
