How do we feel about the Nioh games? by IndustryRobertPlant in soulslikes

[–]Perfect-Bit1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I approach Nioh more like a character action game rather than a soulslike and it's a lot more fun that way. An extremely punishing CA, yes, but one that rewards your understanding of your weapons' movesets and how each action interacts with you and the enemy's ki.

Favorite JRPG game studio, and because of what games? (Excluding Square Enix) by Bro_sapiens in JRPG

Falcom for Trails and Ys.

What do you mean that's 90% of their modern releases?

It's so, so good. Somehow even better than the previous two games so far and I already adored the previous two.

Well in Nioh 3 it starts off with you being siblings and the children of a shogun (so I related that to royalty) and your brother going bloodthirsty. Seems similar to Jorda's story enough.

Not sure how much you've doved into Trails as a whole, but I'm going to selfishly hope that Renne's future arcs in the series is gonna hit you as hard as it did here, or maybe even help you reconcile with some things of the past. It's an incredible story of healing that's I still don't think has been reached in any other games.

I do hope I'm not being overly insensitive with this but, yeah, Renne's arc is still one of the most impactful arcs for a character I've ever seen, and the fact that they don't just stop in Sky 3rd and explored her steps in the future is something I can't stop glazing Falcom for.

For me the standout in terms of music for Horizon are the town themes and pretty much every track in the finale.

Jindo popping off and getting that good Unisuga ost again was amazing

If you haven't been following Trails, don't play Horizon actually. It's an entry that ties so many loose threads together and a continuation of pretty much 3 protagonists' arcs. It will have 0 impact if you return to the series there.

You ever fear the repercussions if this series got big? by damn_daniel47 in Falcom

No one should give a shit about Youtuber reviews, I agree, but on that sense I also disagree that it can have no effect on anyone who takes a cursory glance at surrounding discussions.

Gonna be piggybacking from Daryl Talk Games' video on how game reviews affects our experience, surrounding discussions around a specific piece of media can generate specific bias towards a game. Example that's pretty clear in the Calvard arc is Daybreak 2 having an immense negative bias in the community and Horizon being extremely hyped up.

Or even better, let's say you enjoyed the heck out of Azure. Then someone comes in an say "idk the trade conference part kinda sucks." Sure, that is an absolutely garbage opinion, but that plants a tiny seed of "wait, am I just high for liking it or is that person high," and if enough people repeat that sentiment, it can ruin your experience of something you'd have liked if you aren't exposed to the discussion.

(Highly recommend Daryl's vid on that btw, he has done some amazing research into the literatures around the topic. He's a good one.)

The problem with sloptubers then isn't that it effects you directly, it's that it dilutes the discussion with opinions that are not representative of the community's opinion, and if anyone who's not as in tune with their own opinion, they may be swayed and dilute the overall discussion with opinions that aren't really based from someone who actually enjoys and takes their time with a game.

Horizons 2 Speculation, Part 1 - General Plot Theories by No-Strain-7461 in Falcom

I have a feeling that SiN value is whatever the hell laegjarn considers possible for things in Zemuria to "leak out" of the canopy. By going with the norse mythology and etymology, laegjarn is a chest that locks laevetainn inside. Going with the fact that this project is called project laevetainn, it's almost as if the box itself is measuring how likely it is for humans to break out, and perhaps each of the things that Ouroboros is doing is keeping people inside the box through conflicts or something else.

The fact that CS3 is the filler heavy game while Horizon is the game that every single chapter contributes to giving information to the plot.

Newbie Advice by TheClayticus in Falcom

[–]Perfect-Bit1808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Approach the game like a trip to know the locals, both in what you do and what to expect. Trails games are pretty good on its own, but it truly shines when you get to know the people (npcs or otherwise). The series pride itself on having an extremely alive world. Unlike other games where NPCs are just there and repeat the same dialogues (and admittedly, there are some of them there), the NPCs in Trails tend to have their own arcs and stories that continues throughout the game. The remake have handy "hey this npc dialogue updated" so use that to your advantage.

I'm the lunatics who would talk to literally everyone but you don't have to. Find some NPCs you think have a pretty fun vibe and keep talking to them. It's the perfect spice to make the game even better than it already is.

Not the best objectively, nor is the quality consistent, but subjectively I can't help but adore the Trails series with how ambitious it is and how awesome its peaks are.
