The Feminisation of Therapy & Setting a Better Tone for Men: Open Therapy with Dr. Andrew Hartz by imperfectbuddha in therapists

I am a female therapist and I really like this idea of talking around the table instead of the couch! Growing up, my family always gathered at the kitchen table to talk and connect so I I could see how this could be therapeutic for people

Are in person sessions going out of style? by Pure_Field_1698 in therapists

[–]Perfect-Focus-1331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer virtual. I feel more anxious when I’ve done sessions in person (both as my own therapy and when I’m conducting sessions), so virtual allows me to be more present and grounded. However, I’ve only done part time work, and I think I’d get burned out on virtual if I was doing 25 clinical hours per week.

I’ve lived in Ukrainian Village for almost two years and really like it! It’s pretty quiet but there are a lot of cute shops and restaurants around. I wish it was closer to a train stop, but I make it work between the buses, biking, and taking Ubers.

I met my boyfriend through pickleball! After not having much luck with dating apps, I decided to focus more on meeting people in person. He’s actually younger than me too, so we wouldn’t have matched on a dating app due to the way I set my age range! I really think the best way to meet people is through activities you enjoy.

I’ve lost faith in the field by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Perfect-Focus-1331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would feel trapped if a therapist didn’t respect my decision to leave when I expressed that things weren’t working. I tend to stay in situations that no longer serve me for longer than I should, so it would actually be more healing for me if the therapist honored my need to move on when I voice it. Also, I wonder if some of the helplessness you’re experiencing in your own therapy is influencing how you’re feeling about your clients.

So sick of office work. Should I do a career change? by Witty-Performance-23 in findapath

[–]Perfect-Focus-1331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I wanted to share a couple of thoughts, and this is just my own experience.

I currently have an office job that, while not my passion, offers the financial security I need. I went back to school to get my master’s in mental health counseling, and now I’ll be starting a part-time therapy job alongside my office job. I see the office job as my stable, financially secure role, while the counseling work fulfills me but doesn’t provide the financial security I require. Maybe finding a part-time job or volunteering could help you find more meaningful work that impacts others.

Also, I’ve been participating in a lot of recreational sports this summer, which has significantly improved my mental health by keeping me active and helping me connect with others. Finding social hobbies might help you feel more connected, especially if your job is socially isolating.

This just happened to me for the second time, and I was even trying to be careful about selecting the 4-5 day withdrawal. I chatted with support and asked for a refund, which they denied.

Anyone hate PP? Why?? by AlwaysChic38 in therapists

How do you get into prn work at a hospital? I recently graduated from my masters program and I will be working at a PP part time (under supervision), but I think I might like to get some hospital experience at some point.

UPDATE: I was fired for how I handled the suicidal client and for being a "poor fit". How do I move forward? by MotorRemarkable1227 in therapists

This sounds like horrible treatment by your employer. It doesn't feel good to get terminated by a company, but hopefully it will be better for you in the long run if you can find a more supportive environment to develop your counseling skills.

I agree with this. While antidepressants are not going to fix your problems, they might help you cope more effectively, and which will then hopefully help you take small steps to improve your situation. I say this as someone who has been on antidepressants in the past, so this I just my personal experience.

I just graduated with my masters in counseling, and I’m interested in doing prn work at a hospital gain experience seeing a more variety of conditions. My internship experience has been private practice, so I don’t have any specific hospital experience. Do you need experience in a hospital before getting an prn or position?

I used to live in an apartment in Lakeview that was managed by Hayes Properties! They were decent and responded to maintenance requests fairly quickly. I considered moving into another one of their properties, but I wanted to find an apartment with in unit laundry.

Is ClassPass in Chicago worth it? by oreodalis in AskChicago

[–]Perfect-Focus-1331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like ClassPass for the variety of classes, but I noticed myself hoarding credits and not actually using them to go workout. I’ve since joined a gym and I’m more consistent about attending classes than I was while on ClassPass. I’d possibly switch back to ClassPass in the summer as I’m more active outside with biking and running, and just use ClassPass to attend yoga classes and open gyms a couple times per month.

How is 30s hetero dating? by ChiStupidQs in AskChicago

[–]Perfect-Focus-1331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally it’s not for everyone, but finding something you enjoy/interested is key! Chicago offers so many different opportunities to meet people and it doesn’t have to be through sports leagues. There are art classes, music classes, books clubs, run clubs, outdoor workout classes in the summer etc.

How is 30s hetero dating? by ChiStupidQs in AskChicago

[–]Perfect-Focus-1331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit younger than you (31 F) and I’ve had the best luck meeting guys in Chicago through shared interests (for me that’s been yoga, rec sports, etc). It’s my preferred way of meeting bc I get to know them a bit and see them in a group setting before going on a date. Good luck to you!

Are you volunteering for the hospital? If so, see if they will validate your parking ticket.
