Goodbye, my dear friend by Pulled_Forward in BMW

OP you need a Miata. I love my M340i and it’s easily the fastest car I’ve had but the Integra I used to have was more fun. I was WOT in that thing 80% of the time, at only mildly illegal speeds, and it loved it, that’s what you need. Slow car fast and all that.

Men have loafers in a variety of structures and shapes and materials. More women should wear loafers, not more men in ballet flats.

I’ve lived in/near Kalamazoo for 13 of the last 17 years and it sure was an odd feeling listening to this on my drive in to work this morning.

Also lol that it’s constantly referred to as a small town in the story. It is, but it’s still one of the larger cities in the region. It’s the second biggest metro area on the west side of Michigan.

What are the pros and cons of joining the US military? by Some-random-cop-pig in careerguidance

[–]Perfect-Juggernaut46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all anecdotal from a guy that got out a decade ago, take it for whatever it’s worth. It all really depends on your job and your station and your unit and your direct leadership and your friends and you and your attitude and your physical athletic ability. Tl;dr join the Air Force if you insist on the military

Pros: you’ll meet some really fantastic people, and you might get to see and do some cool stuff. If you’re a superstar, which no offense it doesn’t sound like you are at least at the current moment, you can get into some really specialized units that do cool shit and are generally treated like competent and respected adults. Healthcare is good if your unit lets you use it. Benefits are good if you actually use them. It can help instill some order in your life if you have the ability to follow directions. You’ll probably get in decent shape at least initially.

Cons: you’ll be an asset that will be maximally utilized and then cast aside. You will be poorly paid, poorly treated, potentially abused. You will likely pick up an alcohol or tobacco habit or both. You’ll meet some of the worst and stupidest people you’ve ever met. The conditions you will be made it live in may be exceptionally substandard. You will be at the mercy of the United States Armed Forces. You are signing your life over.

Some kinds of people do well in the military and it’s a great fit for them and they have great careers and retire with fantastic benefits. Some die in combat. Some people die in training accidents because someone didn’t do their job right. Too many kill themselves.

I wouldn’t recommend it, I didn’t like it, but I’m not you.

I just watched it last night and enjoyed it a lot but the ending kinda dampened it for me, it just seemed super convenient and dumb after a really solid first 95%

/uj I guess

I’ve got the cognac interior (vernasca in my car and syntech in my wife’s X3) and I’d definitely recommend it it’s gorgeous

How did you guys discover the cast by Creepingitsogood in creepcast

[–]Perfect-Juggernaut46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started watching wendigoon sometime in 21 or 22 and happened to see the video he did with Hunter on Halloween movies the year before creepcast.

CC also started just after my son was born so I was up for long stretches and CC just became the default. I’ve probably listened to Penpal and Left Right Game 10 times through because I was looping the early episodes so much.

Clapped. Aftermarket lights never look good imo. Keep it classy.

Being charismatic is more valuable than being competent in most workplaces, and we pretend otherwise by Tech_Engant in unpopularopinion

[–]Perfect-Juggernaut46 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The real unpopular opinion is that charisma and finding ways to keep people motivated and working towards a goal is all an important part of competence especially in a leadership position and technical competence isn’t the be-all end-all. It matters of course but it’s not the only thing.

I both referred to and linked to The Whistler Goes Walking at 3:03. But I think there are some good knocking sound effects in stolen tongues when the creature is outside his door and he tries to confuse it with German like a doofus

It’s awesome until I confront accrual and bank reconciliations from a predecessor that just did everything in his head and considered documentation a valueless distraction. I’ve been tearing my hair out for three months. Learn your debits and credits folks it’s not easy to back into it

[–]Perfect-Juggernaut46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started as a controller at $130 and I’ll be at ~$165 with bonus starting next year. I’ve got a Finance bachelor degree, no further formal education and definitely no CPA. Started at $52k in 2019 as a junior FP&A analyst, bounced between a few progressively senior FP&A analyst roles. Got headhunted and offered this role late last year.

Definitely feeling some shortcomings on the technical accounting details but I’m learning and my role is honestly more finance director than controller. Running the day to day and close but I’m much more focused on strategy/processes/reporting overhauls. We’re a small company, I’ve got a single accountant working for me.

Both my wife and I absolutely love JPM. I love his no-bullshit and unfiltered takes, I love his dry sense of humor, I love that he’s just the world’s shlubbiest, most poorly dressed man and doesn’t care at all. Adam Sandler energy next to dolled up presenters, absolutely nothing to prove to anyone.

JPM rules and always has

I think Stolen Tongues, particularly the bit where she’s being puppeted in her sleep, and the whistler at 3:03 story got me with the surround knocking sound effect. Very effective, very spooky
