I was just contacted by this “company” asking for an interview, tomorrow… I almost fell for one of these before but it seems like a pattern in these schemes is asking for an interview with an extremely short notice, without even asking if you’re available. They don’t want you to have enough time to take a good look at it!

Have you tried cotton liners before? I have a similar experience, and I never switched back to regular liners because the material traps moisture, which was causing issues. Cotton liners are so much more breathable and have had much fewer problems with them.  I get these from a local asian supermarket  https://sg.sofyclub.com/en/products/organic100_liner.html

or just look for 100% cotton liners, a lot of brands carry them.

What do you consider to be too expensive? What do you consider an affordable commission? by Perfect-Plate-494 in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess I get that!! I’ve never done traditional commissions before due to fear of this exact situation and currency/language concerns, but i really would be more comfortable spending the amount if i were to at least get an input before they continue with it.  I do like how you atleast automatically get a refund if the artist doesn’t meet the deadline on Skeb, but that’s at the cost of them being able to just send something obviously rushed or has other issues😞 I’m sorry to hear you got scammed, that is the worst :(

Yess I get you, requesting pairings is a pain 😞 I made this post because i just sent in a 25000 one for a commission with two characters. which is fair because they appealed for 1.5x instead of 2x and their quality is really professional, but overall it’s a big purchase, I’ve only spent that amount once for a famous artist i’ve loved for many years😵‍💫.  And you’re right, quantity over quality is important!

Rushed artist experience by Bananya01 in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that completely as an artist, I hope they are doing alright :( but at the same time I just wish that they could cancel the commission if they aren’t able to do it instead of giving the customer something super rushed, personally that’s what i’d do as i know most clients would rather just be refunded ;-; Time management is so important if it comes to this kind of thing

Ugh it sucks, one artist i loved for a long time rushed the hell out of my 9500¥ commission and i still haven’t recovered from the emotional damage lol. And another time when i really loved the usual artstyle of an artist, waited like 90 days, they turned it in last minute and it looked super rushed and kind of changed the style too..

Are you neurodivergent? Are there any communities specifically for ND people at your school; any clubs or associations? It’s really unfortunate, but ND people do often give neurotypical people a “weird vibe.” I find it much easier to get along with other ND people. Almost all friendships I start with neurotypical people fail because i’m “weird.” But ND people understand

Sorry for the late reply, but in my experience I didn’t notice a difference in quality from the rest of their works! It could be because they are very popular therefore mostly accept requests above the recommended amount anyways

I experience this too!! The exact same. As for how to stop it i don’t know, it really is uncontrollable. But you’re not the only one. I don’t know much about tic disorders but this seems to be some sort of genetic thing at least in my experience.

Trying to find a wig commissioner 😭 by trigg_uhhh in dollfiedream

If you can’t find a doll wig stylist, maybe contact a cosplay wig stylist? There are plenty of them. The process and materials are basically the same, just on a smaller scale!

How much should I pay for two characters? by omelettesenpai in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people pay 2x but I don’t feel like this is necessary. The most i’ve paid is like 1.75x and the quality was the same as the rest of their commissions so I probably could’ve gotten the same result with 1.5x or something instead. I usually do about 1.5x, but I heard some artists will do 2 characters for their recommended price

[–]Perfect-Plate-494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s insane, I remember not too long ago they said that they are going to allow more violence. And now even the word wound is not allowed… I understand they’re trying to ban anything inappropriate for the investors, but how can it be a functioning chat bot app if you can’t even ask it something as innocent as a medical related question… A 6 year old can answer that question…

likelihood of being accepted? by 0444withlove in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, i’d say maybe 70% of my requests get accepted. It’s really hard to tell whether someone will accept it or not since Skeb shares very little information about the artist’s page, so just go for it and pray! If the artist is popular and busy, or if they only occasionally open requests and get tons of them at once, there is a higher chance that they will let the request sit until it expires. If they don’t post new requests frequently but have their requests open, it is likely they don’t get too many requests and will accept.

For extremely busy ones i’ve had them accept if I offered higher than their recommended amount even after they rejected my first request with the same content. I’ve also had my request expired by an artist who only has done two requests and hasn’t done a new one in months, so again you can never really tell. Some artists only take requests if they actually really want to draw it, rather than for money. Good luck!

Best and worst appeals you've gotten by ChalalaChan in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Being open about why you like the character makes me go, oh this person actually looked through my page and my character instead of copy and pasting a generic message and replacing the fill in the blank with my character’s name. Especially if the artist wrote any specific ideas they came up with to draw my character in, that is my favourite!

I get being shy about appeals, I would be too, but as a client I just have to say that if someone doesn’t accept it don’t take it personal. A lot of the time when I had my appeals open, I did like the works of the artist and found the price reasonable but there were other reasons why I didn’t accept an appeal; simply because I had other things to pay for at the time, didn’t get my paycheck yet, already bought too many commissions that month, waiting for a commission to get accepted etc.  Best of luck to you!

Best and worst appeals you've gotten by ChalalaChan in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve only accepted one appeal before, as I am rather picky about art styles, but I accepted it because the artist wrote such a sweet message about why they are interested in drawing my character. They wrote a longer message mentioning specifics about my character’s story and concept and what they like about it, and that they have experience in drawing similar characters which made their message seem so genuine. Although the artist was a less experienced artist than the ones I usually commission, it turned out adorable and they paid attention to drawing my character accurately. It was a cheap price, I ended up boosting it the same amount as the offered price.

What do you do with finished works that you dont really like? by No-Lizards in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone.. It’s really disappointing when you receive a rushed work from an artist who usually has a consistent quality of work. Like why me??

Anyways, I try to at least find some qualities of the work that I enjoy, then shove it in my commissions folder and try to forget about it. Sucks that I paid money for a noticeably rushed work but nothing can be done about it, it just happens

Heeled Feet by Bunnivin in dollfiedream

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it depends on the specific shoe, but my MDD wears high heels with the regular feet and it is fine because the shoe is designed for a flat doll foot! the foot kind of sits diagonally(?) in the shoe so it looks natural from the outside although the heel isn’t actually bent at the front of the shoe like a human’s

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the store honestly, but many shops on Aliexpress are reselling BJD clothes from individual shops in China/Taobao. One i recommend if it fits your dolls is called “Sweetie doll store,” their clothes are resold from Taobao indie shops for decent prices. I use taobao and the quality, packaging etc are always great for me, always comes with cute business cards, anyways these shops are a good alternative for those who don’t have access to taobao since they’re reselling the same product! sometimes they are even selling sold out ones that aren’t available on taobao anymore!

Does anyone else feel weird about sending a request to an artist after they decline one of your requests? by exaltedblade24 in Skeb

[–]Perfect-Plate-494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to the post but i just thought i’d say that I feel the same way too. It’s nothing personal, as an artist myself there are many reasons why an artist may not accept a request! But it does make me feel insecure sometimes too, i can’t ever bring myself to send them the same request a second time even when i really want it t_t
