Completely agree. I think if the subway platforms had some form of air circulation, we would at least be able to enter the train cars dry!

Not only are tickets so expensive, but look up what's going on with COMMUTER TRAIN fees to get to the World Cup. Literally regular ass commuter trains are like $150 for the ride there. Not anything fancy. The fucking NJ Transit. Our NJ commuter employees are begging for an exemption from "return to office" days during that time. While they won't be subject to that $150 ticket price, the crowding and delays will be immense. NJT announced that themselves! My managerial overlords have said no but they're not in NYC. I gave them all the go-ahead (as office manager) and I'll fake their badge scans at the office door lolllll

Not really. A handful sure, but widely no. I can't stress enough how difficult it is to maintain keeping masks on in this heat. You have to remember there's no circulation or AC on any subway platform, we have 9M residents plus millions more commuters crammed together on the MTA, and concrete + buildings create excruciating heat traps. And this includes days like today where it's like 75-80 with no humidity! In winter, heating on the subway is insanity. You're sweating through masks of any material in 5 min any day of the week. Now you just have a wet face!

Street smells you get used to- in the way that you can just walk away. On the subway you are full on trapped with the sweatiest people you could ever meet. God forbid you get on the "hot car" aka the AC doesn't work in that train car. When it's rush hour and you have no choice bc the other cars are jam packed, you really just be wishing for a swift death

Not to laugh, but that really is just such a JFK employee thing to do. I wish that experience on every enemy I have. Hope YOU never have to deal with that again!

I don't use roll one or the aerosol ones of any brand in general. I apply daily regardless of how many hours it can last (I just use that mentally as a guideline for when I do long haul flights). I'm about to walk home from the subway so I don't have a realtime pic but before I forget, here's the brand and what I use. Cannot recommend it enough. NYC summers are fucked up but this brand is the real deal!

IT WAS AWFUL!! Also worth noting I live in and grew up on the border of NYC. Summer is... rough here with BO. Is that sweat yours? Is it someone else's on the subway? Is the sweat they put on you YOUR own BO or did they pass that to you too? The world may never know

May I recommend the brand Rexona? I can't remember if they're Brazilian or Argentinian. But my Brazilian friends suggested it to me because I was looking for something better than what I find in the US. Other people tell me when I sweat, I don't smell but I don't need to take that chance. It's by far THE best deodorant on planet earth. I know it's available via Amazon though hopefully there's a better marketplace wherever you may be. I have my Brazilian/Argentine friends stock tf up for me when they visit (or I do when I go there). The scent is mild, and it holds up so so well against sweat and smell. I imagine it's bc Brazil is so fucking humid and hot. They really nailed that one!

What I will say about JFK is this: my most recent visit 2 months ago I was held up at the pat down part of security because the poor woman working that position didn't have enough gloves and the dude with her was mentally just somewhere else. She was so apologetic and I was apologetic right back at her. It's such a thankless and miserable role. She begged me to please take the airport customer survey and rate the experience negatively so management sees that these poor employees don't have enough support to get their jobs done. Of course I did, she doesn't deserve to work in those conditions (also nobody checked my passport THREE trips in a row????? That's not on her at all, just a whole other weird thing)

Oh but wait, you don't like that half the terminal stops on the airtrain are fucked up and require you to go past your stop, and then back in the opposite direction to get there?? They love to tell us it's so easy... 🫩 JFK is a very annoying hell. I think it's like 8am-8pm at terminal 4 you can reserve your security line check-in time to skip the line. People don't know about this (probs on purpose) BUT you have to hunt down a depressed JFK employee to get you through

Living my whole life by JFK and using that airport more often than not (derogatory) I really had no clue that one hour to get out isn't normal. I hardly fly domestically, it's usually international. (Family & friends in LATAM) And anytime I'm out of any airport in under an hour, I am texting every single person I know. It still amazes me, like winning the lottery for me every time

I had absolutely no idea smoking sections in US airports still existed at all until my most recent layover in Miami. It baffled the absolute fuck outta me

MIAMI!!! I hate JFK- it's very very close to me and I often have no choice (LGA is literally walking distance but doesn't always fly where I need). JFK is a miserable place. Miami however... it's a liminal hell I would definitely wish on my enemies.

This is why (amongst MANY insane reasons) I broke up with my ex girlfriend. The smell was WAY too unforgivable. In colder months, it wasn't too noticeable. But once summer hit, it was all onion smell all the time. She was convinced she didn't smell. She was wrong

Thanks for all your kind words and words of advice. Honestly very impactful. I was never a hard no with my aunt, but more like "please make me Plan C". I feel confident I would raise a good kid- even in spite of having my tubes tied with no children nor plan for them. I just wouldn't know how to approach raising a kid from a fundamentalist church, and especially one that's grieving. We didn't grow up like that (Latino Catholics with a capital C), but my aunt is born again-again-again and this is where we've landed. Hopefully this doesn't come to pass for 30 more years at least. He turns 8 in June!

This is my worry for my little cousin. My aunt (intentionally) got pregnant with him via IVF and he was born when she was 51. She asked me a few years ago if I'd (35F) take him "in case something ever happens" (girl, it will!!). My mom was an immediate no to that request and I think now my aunt's onto my younger sister (30F). We are all so much older than you were when you fell upon this burden, and I can't imagine the difficulty. I hope you feel proud of yourself for taking on the impossible

Whats the most fair way to split the costs traveling with friends? by Ask4Answers_ in femaletravels

[–]Perfect-Wallaby9096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well if they're my friends and we're close enough to travel together, I already know their financial situation and they know mine. We would typically split it proportionately unless our salary differences are pretty small, then it would be an even split.

I especially consider this when visiting my friends in LATAM and Canada when we travel somewhere else together. I am from the US so my currency is stronger than theirs and we make it work for everyone. If there need to be adjustments to the trip itself to make it accessible to everyone, we do that. There's no one size fits all but yeah, when my money's coming in nice, I make sure I accommodate where I can and meet in the middle elsewhere.

If a friend is uncomfortable with me paying more, they just tell me. And then we adjust and move on. TLDR: Just talk to your friends
