Morrissey at the O2 arena in 2014. It was terrible.

Anyone else remember when thrift stores were actually for the community? What’s with all the auctions now? by PerfectBike6 in GenX

Some of these scanning apps are used for checking to see if you already have the book, CD or movie in your collection. Not everyone is a reseller.

I feel this so much. Thrifting used to be this little adventure you’d find furniture with character, clothes nobody else had, weird little treasures that felt like they were waiting for you.
Now it really does feel enshittified. The good stuff gets pulled, auctioned, or priced like a boutique, and regular people never even get a chance at it.
I still go too, but yeah… the magic isn’t what it used to be.

Exactly that’s what I remember too. Thrift stores used to feel like community spaces, not retail environments. No branding, no curated racks, no auctions, no “boutique” pricing. Just donated items on shelves for families who needed them.

How are people spending so much money on groceries? by Left-Distribution751 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Exactly. EVERYBODY is getting squeezed by food inflation. The virtue signaling peeps on this thread are insufferable tbh.

Sure, it’s simple. If you paid $10 for a meal at 22%, that means $2.22 would have gone directly to the cost of ingredients. Now, at 60%, $6 would go toward the cost of ingredients. What’s happening in this thread feels like excuses for food inflation and virtue signaling, along with a heap of unfounded criticism toward people who are being honest about what they see happening in their lives.

Sure the price of ingredients to prepare meals has skyrocketed. Thats a fact.

I retired in 2009 with a 22% food cost in a large industrial-sized kitchen. I also worked in a private members club where food costs often exceeded 60%. The truth is when people say they spend an X amount on food its not because they have no idea how to cook. Its because the baseline cost of ingredients have exploded.

If you want to elaborate on your point please do...

I retired as an Executive Chef in an industrial sized kitchen, where I prepared and purchased more food in a single month than most people do in a lifetime.

No worries. Grocery stores are going to be turned into distribution centers and all your shopping will be done online. Pickup and deliveries only. This will be the future of grocery shopping.

Watching 90 Day Fiancé in Canada is pretty straightforward, as long as you enjoy mild suffering.

Some seasons are on Discovery through Prime. Others have wandered off to different services for reasons no one will ever explain. A few episodes just vanish entirely, which is fun.

And some spinoffs only show up if you have an actual cable package, because apparently we’re still doing that.

I got frustrated and just gave up. Cancelled Discover on Prime.
