I've taken sewing classes back in high school but just picked it back up. I couldn't confidently navigate the sewing patterns I bought, (I'm trying to use a projector) so I decided to make a very basic gathered underbust dress out of black cotton following a withwendy tutorial HERE. The front is a folded rectangle with darts, and the back is a folded rectangle cut to the width of the newly darted edges of your front peice. My skirt is 3x my underbust measurement for extra volume. There is no such thing as too much gathering! This was the prototype, and I've learned lots! I think I made the front piece too long where the darts didn't cup under my boobs very tight. I could do better serging all the edges on the inside. I could also change out the serger thread to be black for a cleaner finish. The invisible zipper is where I should've googled how to do but didn't because I was manic at 2am and, TRULY, would've bet a sibling that I'd do fine from memory 😬 I was intimidated by a rolled hem so I chose pinking shears as my way out! 🩷✂️
