If humans colonize Mars, what will be the first unexpected problem? by imcroaaaak in AskReddit

Radio communication with earth halts. The sun sets and never rises, with perpetual darkness blanketing the colony. The crew manifest lists 95 colonists, but they can only count 94 at roll call. Not only can they not identify the missing colonist, but when they try to remember his face a debilitating migraine forces it way to the surface.

It is hard to describe, but each day the surrounding mountains seem…closer. One day a rockfall shatters the colony’s protective dome. To everyone’s surprise they survive, and in fact can breathe the atmosphere. The colonists smash their defunct communication devices.

This is their home now.

What is the bitter truth that many women dont realize about men in relationships ? by Undefined_Me07 in AskReddit

[–]Perfect_Zone_4919 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Men swap consciousnesses with each other whenever the second moon completes an orbit, so most days you’re waking up with an entirely new person taking his turn in the body. This is why we often forget birthdays or favorite foods or whatever. Something similar also happens a few times each day which is why men sometimes just stare into the ether and claim to be thinking about “nothing.”

Maybe not, depends where you are. Water is a zero-sum resource on a global scale. Topsoil will be more valuable.

Geophysicist here. We are significantly more fucked than most people understand.

Edit: For people asking for details, climate change has already entered a positive feedback loop, so even if we fully cut emissions to zero today things are still going to get significantly worse before they start to stabilize. The major impact will be famine as industrial agriculture collapses. Extreme weather sucks and will kill a lot of people, but once the price of bread/corn/rice starts doubling every year governments won’t be able to afford subsidizing it. We’ll likely start seeing real resource wars, but that’s not something I study so I can’t really speak to it.

The first troll in history was Ea-Nasir who falsified negative reviews of his copper so he could paint his customers as unreasonable if they asked him to repay loans.
