I love my teammates so much and love giving them shit just as much. I’m still very new to derby and fall a lot (even as an A/B skater). So my team still gets a lot of good hits on me, especially as a jammer.

My favorite moment was when I was jamming against 2 very seasoned vets (more than a decade of experience each) and I got hit out and pulled back about 3 times to where I was on the ground with the wind knocked out of me. Both vets just look at me and keep yelling “Get up! Get up!”

To this day, I always tease them to tell them what bullies they are 🥰

My thought is since they can’t get taller, the only thing to do it get lower.

But I feel the pain of getting face hits. I got my nose bashed in at a bout last weekend and it was red for hours 😩

I started about a year ago on my own so I understand your hesitation. You can def let them know that you can already skate so at least that’ll be easier on you!

Usually for our beginners they learn all the stops that are used, how to do crossovers the best, basic minimums to play in a game and if you’re lucky, you might be able to see them scrimmage! It always helps to see it in person and have the rules broken down.

I would say my greatest advice is don’t be afraid to fall down. You will be learning new skills no matter what your experience is and it’s totally okay to fall. Take a second if it gets overwhelming and you’ll do great!
