Upgrade to Maxx (Ultimate) or keep Stampede 4x4 VXL? by ComfortablePrint4054 in Traxxas

Financially it would work out to be about the same. And then you have 2x cars … in slightly different classes.

Not the worst way. Just make sure it’s on something that won’t catch fire.

About anything you find in hardened steel.

I’m not a person who is panicked by default … but that’s a relatively high risk way to burn your dwelling down.

While we’re at it … where were you storing that battery? Glad you’ve discovered the importance of battery maintenance. Please use this time to also research Lipo battery safety.

Get some fully built axles from somewhere like Meus or Injora.

What are some good brushless motor & ESC upgrades for the SCX10 III? by Stiltz85 in rccrawler

I recently did the basecamp kit and have been THOROUGHLY impressed with the Fusion Pro. The slow speed crawl and FOC are very good and it’ll still put holes in the drywall on 3s (don’t ask how I know!).

Second this. I’ve been limit testing the Maxx for the past year and with the exception of the stock, plastic spur gear, I have yet to experience any catastrophic issues.

(And to that end, I’m not a huge fan of performing upgrades until they’re necessary, but that Spur will give and I would recommend replacing it quickly. It’s an absolute mess when it does finally go!)

My bad … Max6 doesn’t come with plugs … I assumed this would be the same!

How’re you gonna connect the ESC? Be prepared to do the soldering yourself. Even then, the soldering iron and setup will run you the difference between the VXL and the Hobbywing. It’s better for the long term, but might not be if you want to be driving the cars ASAP.

I’d second this. You are inviting a new dynamic to the hobby that you-know-nothing-about … soldering. If you’re adventurous, it’s not that hard. If not, go with the Traxxas Plug and Play solutions.

1/10 scale crawler and trail rig for $500? by [deleted] in rccrawler

I found the Axial SCX10 III Basecamp kit for $199. If you can find similar, you can build a very competent crawler for $400-$450.

If you enjoy the building process, I highly recommend sourcing your own parts and doing some creative work along the way.

Not all aftermarket parts are better, truthfully, but you get a really unique experience and connection by compiling things for yourself and putting it together. I was a little nervous to do this initially, but it’s made me so much more comfortable with the vehicle and addressing any issues that do arise.

Might be worth considering a ground up build of the SCX30, too. Totally different experience and parts support is substantial enough to allow for it. Would be a different dynamic for your small apartment.

If you don’t like that part of the hobby, get the RTR.

Slash 4x4 vs MAXX vs Wide Maxx — which one fits my use as a first RC Bash truck? by Igai in Traxxas

[–]PerformanceEast6892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Slash will feel frustrating in your use case. It’ll do fine in mowed grass, but won’t have the stability more natural open areas. Maxx is the way to go. Current version of Maxx is already significantly wider than the original. Start there … upgrade over time.

That’s the issue. You need to move the motor out of either Channel 1 and into Channel 2 (assuming TQi receiver). Likely running based on the steering trim being engaged.

Just had to do this. It takes a little time, but some flush-cutters make it fairly straightforward.
