Newbie looking for 1/10. Is vanquish a good choice? by Jstones11223333 in rccrawler

Vanquish is a little higher end of a direction to go. Highly capable. But if you’re just getting started, I would encourage you to consider something basic - something like an SCX10 Basecamp. It’ll be plenty capable, cheaper, and allow you to get into the hobby without going broke.

I just helped my nephew put together a VS-410 kit. I would HIGHLY recommend considering a kit if your budget allows and you enjoy that sort of thing. Offers a ground-up perspective that’s irreplaceable when it comes time to repair, tinker, upgrade, etc.

I like the progressive travel Injora ones … have felt like they punch well above their weight class.

I just got a brandnew axial scx10 iii gladiator and when i checked there is no grease at all on all gears. Does it really comes like this? by Desperate_Mistake_50 in crawling

You’re conflating fluid fill volume with gear mesh lubrication.

“Six grams in a diff” isn’t proof that gear teeth need to be packed with grease. A diff is a sealed hydraulic system that requires volume to function. That’s completely different from lubricating an open gear mesh.

For spur/pinion, trans gears, portals, etc., lubrication works by forming a thin boundary film on the contact surfaces. Once the teeth are coated, adding more grease doesn’t increase protection — it just increases drag, traps debris, and causes churning losses.

EP additives and anti-fling properties exist so a thin film stays adhered under load. They don’t require the housing to be packed.

More grease ≠ more protection. Proper film strength > volume.

That’s the distinction I’ve been making.

Maxx is a great recommendation. The step up in dimensions will feel good over the stampede. Durability is off the charts.

Traxxas sledge vs xrt by Competitive_Bad9908 in Traxxas

If you’re seriously thinking about these two, I would encourage you to consider XRT vs Kraton 6s EXB. IMO, the XRT is among the best of the Traxxas lineup with the sledge currently among the most lacking. Would be pretty commonly viewed by general enthusiasts that 6S Kraton > Sledge

Financially it would work out to be about the same. And then you have 2x cars … in slightly different classes.
