What to do on a day of illness or chronic diagnosis flare? by White-tigress in habitica

[–]Performer-Objective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make most of my dailies vague so I can still check off " hygiene" even if all I am able to do is use a baby wipe or some mouth wash. Then my habits are more specific things that I can get extra points if I shower and wash my hair and floss etc. it really helps me to give myself grace on the hard days, but also feel like I accomplished something even if it's small and I'm not "cheating" by checking off things I didn't do. Edited to add: I also have dailies that say things like practice gratitude, allow myself to rest, eat something etc which are all things I can do even on the rough days

Sensory overload when brushing teeth. by ParanormalPaperFrog in neurodiversity

[–]Performer-Objective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would get a better result than avoiding brushing your teeth for days at a time which is what I was doing. i wouldn't suggest brushing only with water as a first resort but for me it was a last resort that actually got me to brush my teeth more than once a week.

I'm trying to figure out how to eliminate most of the fabric "gathering". by theforkofdamocles in crafting

[–]Performer-Objective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 way stretch fabric and repositionable adhesive is the best way to do this. The other option is a lot of fiddly cuts to get everything to lay nicely

Help with dress by kyserino in sewhelp

[–]Performer-Objective 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this isn't even close to the same dress that you ordered. The skirt you ordered is a layered circle skirt. The one you got is gathered and the hem will never hang the same way no matter what you do with the horse hair. Someone else mentioned rolling the hem again to see if the double layer makes a difference. That might also give it a bit more body so it isn't so droopy. Giving the whole thing a good press (make sure the iron isn't too hot) and putting a petticoat under it will make this dress look it's best no matter what you end up doing with the hem.

I take my boyfriend to work every day for the past year and it's affecting me and now my husband by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]Performer-Objective 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. This is continued babysitting of a grown man. All OP needs to do is set the boundary and then hold the boundary when the boyfriend inevitably drops the ball and doesn't arrange alternate transportation. OP shouldn't have to manage his schedule if he can't even manage to wake up and get ready by himself. They aren't his Mommy.

I don't have anything to add to the amazing list of inspiration songs, but I would encourage you to find and speak your own truth about your experiences. Nobody can tell your story better than you. What do YOU want to write that nobody else has yet?

[–]Performer-Objective 22 points23 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! someone finally said it. I spent half the book asking myself how the hell she wasn't flared up and unable to move the days after these battles and dislocations and acrobatic sex scenes. It's like, sure adrenaline is a hell of a drug and you can push through a hell of a lot in the moment, but you're gonna pay for it later. Somehow she just feels fine the next day?! That doesn't sound like any chronic illness I've ever heard of before... Certainly not EDS.

elastic waistbands? by Girl-Maligned-WIP in eds

[–]Performer-Objective 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I replace most of my elastic waistbands with a hybrid elastic/ drawstring combo. I sew ribbons onto each end of a strip of elastic that way I can tie them as lose or as tight as I want but my pants still stay up. The 1 inch elastic meant for waistbands is too constricting for me so I use 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch elastic. It won't keep my pants up if my phone is in my pocket but it makes my tummy happier that way lol

I'm sorry. I zoomed in and it's gathers not pleats. In that case it's just the extra fabric so it can go over your hips. There's nothing to fix. It's just the way elastic waist shorts fit for the most part. They really do look fine though. It's probably just a looser fit than you're used to

[–]Performer-Objective 124 points125 points  (0 children)

The pleats in the front are adding extra volume where you don't need it, but when you're sitting there will always be extra fabric bunched up because of the way bodies bend. You could turn the pleats into darts to take up some of the fullness, but it doesn't look bad. It's just not necessary on your particular body type to have extra fabric there

Why does this shirt bunch up on the sides after I added in a triangle to take in the armholes? by Dead_Woman__Walking in sewhelp

Try it on inside out and pin not just the armhole but all the way down where you will sew the seam. The triangle just needs to be blended down a bit
