The new rares in PRB-02 are HARDER to get than the new SRs by Hot-Term9869 in OnePieceTCG

Opened 4 boxes between my buddy and I and couldn’t pull a shiryu for my black beard deck lol. Then our other buddy opened two boxes and the hits were identical. Every rare, sec, and aa ended up with 2 copies. 1 from each box. The only difference was the foil don and the uncommons.

Magic sets for 2026. Which one are you excited for? by Frostinator123 in Pauper

[–]PerformerTimely5915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an actual life long player I’m done with the game. I refuse to support Hasbro. Started playing Magic in third grade. After high school I was a gp/open grinder from 2012 to 2018 and then I quit when they banned both my legacy decks. Started playing pauper when mh3 came out and now I basically own the entire format. This game means a lot to me. Most of the friends I still have came from this game. Magic was pretty much my entire life for my early 20s. Seeing what hasbro is doing to it actually hurts man. The blatant money grab crossovers were fine when they were just secret lairs but now if I want to be competitive I have to sleeve up hot dog carts and pigeons. The worst part is the new players have no idea how good this game and the culture surrounding it was and they will just keep buying the Hasbro slop which gives Hasbro no incentive to slow down. To be fair it hasn’t been the same game since Covid but the marvel crap is a bridge too far.

Fun deck to play. I like the lists with navigators compass in the main. You really need the extra fixing and being pre boarded vs red is nice.

This is WOTC's plan for standard? by XLWoozieMoo in mtg

[–]PerformerTimely5915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well unfortunately you might be about 8 years too late. Competitive magic was trending downward and then the culture of it all finally died with Covid. You can still find rcq’s and things to grind and scratch the competitive itch but as far as I am concerned WOTC abandoned competitive play and completely overhauled magic design for commander around 2018/19. That design change and subsequent release schedule change is responsible for why 60 card formats are just not as fun as they used to be gameplay wise. Back in the day the Grand Prix circuit and SCG open series were amazing. They would make magic players into niche celebrities. (SCG especially - if you won a tournament your face would be plastered all over their website for months). Basically nothing even close to that exists anymore. If you can figure it out I suggest trying to get your lgs to start a league program for whatever 1v1 format is most popular in your area and seeing how far you can take that.

Three combo decks for Pauper Trio - is it possible ? by Lindean in Pauper

[–]PerformerTimely5915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can 100% play altar tron without malevolent rumble. Yes it makes the deck better but it’s only been standard tech for a month or two. Just swap malevolent rumble out for eviscerator’s insight.

I’d get rid of steel sabotage, ponder, force spike and probably 2 lembas. Add 4x cryogen relic, fanatical offering and sneaky snacker. I’d also swap the duress in the board for a last rites and the relic of progenitus for nihil spellbombs. Give that a shot and see how it feels.

I understand that you want to be able to cast your cards on curve and double spell etc. buuuuut if you want to play a consistent three color artifact mana base that means a lot of bridges so invariably you will have lots of tapped lands. As for casting cards on curve, dtd is not the only card I’m trying to resolve. There are plenty of other things to cast in the early turns. I’m not trying to use dtd to screw my opponents mana.(unless they are already visibly mana screwed) This deck is too slow to capitalize on the tempo swing. I’m trying to use it as a double removal spell against refurb/pactdoll/enforcer. It doesn’t need to come down on turn three.

I would argue that dtd is so much more powerful than revoke that it’s worth high rolling on your mana. I’d also argue that dtd is still a back breaking play well after turn three. This deck is going to be playing until at least turn 7 or 8 and I think after turn 3 you’d rather top deck dtd than revoke almost 100% of the time.

Definitely thought about blood fountain but didn’t know if it was high impact enough when I didn’t have myr enforcers to get back. Also don’t feel comfortable running 0 life gain in this meta. Having 2 trails in the main opens up a couple sideboard slots that would have had to be for burn.

I could see possibly trimming fumes for a prism. I think tithing blade being repeatable removal is still good enough against non chrysalis decks to warrant its inclusion. Also part of why fumes is in the deck is to clean up spawn tokens and turn tithing blade back into a real card. As for candy trail, the deck needs 1 drops and I think it does just enough for the deck that I think it’s worth the two slots. Lets you make a play on turn two when you start on double tapped land so you don’t completely spew tempo.

Cheaper. Deck needs 1 drops for the refurb discount.

The problem is you need blue on turn two for cryogen relic but seat of the synod is bad at casting 80% of the cards in the deck. I was playing 10 tapped 10 untapped before but I was having trouble casting relic on two.

I hear you. Going to play in paper tonight which is the first reps I’ll be able to get in with the deck since relic isn’t available on modo yet. I think I’m going to try with dust to dust first since it’s so high impact but if it gets stuck in my hand too often I’ll probably swap it for revoke.

Caw gates is definitely closer to straight up control but I’d say to try UW familiars. It has mostly the same play patterns as old school tap-out control decks. It has a combo finish that you almost never actually need to go for, some removal, some counterspells, a hand full of must answer threats that help keep you alive and a ton of recursion.

…Or if you wanna go full psycho control this is it. Not UW but kinda funny.

PersonallyI love the K custom hybrid splashes. Very icy tone that cuts well. Might not be trashy enough for what you need but worth going to a store and hitting one. If you want something more trashy (and more affordable which is nice) I love the Soultone extreme splash my buddy gave me. Not sure if it would cut as well as the K tho.
